Traffic Signal Improvements for Baltimore Pike and Providence Roads

PennDOT announced improvements to traffic signals at 14 intersections on Baltimore Pike and Providence Road in Nether Providence Township and Media Borough.  The $1.9 million project is to install a computerized closed loop traffic signal system, in addition to traffic signal heads and mast arms.

The setup will reduce traffic congestion by networking the traffic signals via fiber optic cable to a centralized control system.  PennDOT will then have greater control to make modifications on sequence and timing to allow for optimal traffic flow.  More can be read: PennDOT's press release.
