Media needs Bi-partisanship Cooperation To Get Things Done!
With the recent developments regarding the pending sale of 1 West State Street, I couldn't help but think that after 7 years, I'm still looking for answers to the same questions: (1 West State St., 3rd St.Bridge, Media Theatre) After the New Orleans Cafe went out of business, much in the same fashion as Brodeur's, Borough Council had a chance to learn from the situation and modify their strategy. After rejecitng an offer to sell the building to Dan Brodeur for $1 Million, they went on to lease the building and practically repeated the same financial missteps that led to ANOTHER tenant defaulting on the lease. Any other organization other than municipal government, would have been removed from doing leases/sales.
Having spoken to residents and business owners, the consensus seems the bid is too low. Should it be sold? Yes, but at a reasonable price and if possible, in a way in which it retains the character of the building. I ask this: Would anyone on Borough Council sell their own home at almost 30% less than what it was appraised for? If they are, I'm interested.
During that timeframe in 2004, the Media Theatre was also suffering from financial set backs which included debts owed to Media Borough. Again, another tenant, in another building and a similar situation. What's different in this scenario is that it appears the Theatre pays $1 dollar a year to the borough in rent and the Mayor sits on their Board of Directors.
Media, it's time for new leadership, it's time for transparency and it's time for bi-partisan cooperation to move us beyond the party politics that have gripped this town. What's encouraging is the bi-partisan coalition made up of Democrats and Republicans has done more for the 3rd St. bridge in 9 months, than the prior 12 years. Let's keep it going and move beyond these real estate issues that have been mis-managed for YEARS!

Media Borough Meeting Minutes 2004Tedman O’Hara inquired about the debts owed to the Borough from the tenants of the New Orleans CafĂ© and Media Theatre. President Hagan responded that the Borough is in negotiations with the Theatre to modify a payment plan to settle any outstanding balances.

Great People doing Great Things - Bazaar of All Nations - Movie Trailer
While at the grand opening of the Blueberry Bog on Orange Street a few weeks ago, I got to meet the creative and directive group behind the the break through movie, Bazaar of All Nations.
It was great for me to have them share all the 'ins' and 'outs' it took to produce and later release the movie. With any production of this sort, their are many known and unknown risks involved that could derail a project like this at any time. They had their challenges, but thankfully were able to produce a movie that reflects on not only a historical era in Delaware County, but a place that was once considered the prototype of future shopping malls to come.

Taxi Cab Service in Media? Here's your best bet
For years there's been a great idea out there to bring a taxi cab service back to Media. Back in the day, there was Kaiser Cab and Jumbo Cab, but long since gone. So until something better comes up, here's your best bet.
Typically, you won't see cabs cruising down State St., so you'll have to call if one is needed. Here's your best bet.

Delaware County landmak Locust Crest Tavern has been sold
If you've never been to the Locust Crest Tavern, you have one last chance as the place has been sold to a group of investors. The Hoffman family has owned the bar since the 1950's and it is truly one of the last remaining, rusting watering holes left in all the area.
In honor of this landmark, local area bands the Broozer's and the R3 Band will be preforming at 9pm tomorrow night (3/25)
Pride in Media Bi-Partisanship - Thanks for the Support
Media,
I want to thank everyone that came out to the Media Repubican event last night for the kick-off of my campaign for Media Borough Council. I was happy to see both Republicans and Democrats there in attendance.
During the event I was wearing a pin that said "Pride in Media Republicans." Someone approached me an said I would like to see that say "Pride in Media Bi-partisanship." I not only agreed, but thought it was a great idea. The pins have been ordered.
If you'd like to be a part of my campaign, find out what's going on or just have a general interest in the process whether your a Republican or Democrat, please check out my site: www.tedmanformedia.com on Facebook.
Thanks

A Million Dollar Opportunity Missed - 1 West State Street Pending Sale for $650k
Brodeur's 2006 |
It was wrongly reported by a local blog that 1 West State St. had been sold. It has not, it's PENDING sale on a bid received from an architecture firm interested in buying the building and creating a multi-use configuration of retail, restaurant and office space. You can read more about that at www.delcotimes.com and http://media.patch.com/articles/public-notice-announced-for-sale-of-vacant-state-street-property
Kudos to the Bi-partisan coalition for deciding last September of 2010 that this needed to be actively listed with a commercial agent, than left on a website passively awaiting a buyer which was the initial strategy by then Council President, Pete Williamson and Vice President, Monica Simpson.

Tedman For Media Borough Council....and here's why!
I started this blog well over a year ago to better communicate with the residents and businesses of Media what I thought was important and helpful information. It fact, it was an idea I had while running for borough council two years ago. My thought was to fill a need that wasn't being delivered on by Media Borough council, elected officials, or for that matter, anyone really! At the time, there wasn’t any hyperlocal reporting sites in Media. Now, there are many with some done very well (Media Patch visitmediapa) in building awareness in and for this town.
After 380 posts, syndication from http://www.delctotimes.com/, CNN, outside.in and other news outlets, this site has not only been visited by many repeat viewers, but has served as a resource that’s searched daily for information, pictures and video. Before this blog, people generally didn't know who their local elected officials were or the issues at hand, and that bothered me. There was no forum for communicating or interacting with the real issues. The 3rd St. Bridge, hotel and 1 West State St. property were mere campaign slogans mentioned every 2 years. Other than council meeting minutes, and one news reporter, residents had no idea how these issues were progressing (i.e $240k in fees towards up keep on 3rd St. Bridge).
I strived to do something different and I'm confident I made that impact. I commented on council meetings and promoted community events, I wrote about environmental issues I though were interesting and also covered the items people didn't want to discuss (i.e. Media Theatre, Politics), I reported on local crime issues with the help of residents, faster than ever done before in Media. I even, covered last November's election in REAL TIME!
I want Media residents, businesses and my opponents to know that there is a real opportunity to build upon the success and cooperation that the recent bi-partisan coalition has created. It's a break through that brought both Republicans and Democrats together to work on issues that have been neglected for years. The results speak for themselves; there's been more done by the bi-partisan coalition in the last 9 months towards the 3rd St. Bridge than the prior 12 years!
I've enjoyed doing this tremendously and have been fascinated by it’s growth. The gratitude I've received from people has been both inspiring and motivating. That's great, and appreciated, but that's not enough. As a nominee of the Media Republican Party, I'm happy to announce that I'll be running for Media Borough Council this year along with Pete Alyanakian and Toni Cavanagh DiMonte. Much like myself, they are both life long residents of the area who grew up and went to school here.
I ran twice for this same position campaigning on forward thinking, action, execution, fiscal responsibility and transparency. I didn’t win, but through this site and my interaction with the community, I’ve never stopped pushing those ideas.
Please check out my Facebook Campaign site at: http://www.tedmanformedia.com/
Much more to come.......

Allthingsmediapa.com collaborating with surrounding communities to make an impact on local reporting
I'm sitting here at the Edgmont County Club partaking in the www.delcotimes.com blogging and social media event. With me are many local area bloggers from Ken Knickerbocker who covers Parkesburg, PA (www.parkesburgtoday.com) to well known and popular blogger, Stefan Roots who reports on Chester, PA (www.chesterblog.com). There are many others here too like Mary Ann Fiebert covering delco's top 10 list, to citizen advocate Know Joe. Politics, food, reviews, lists, hobbies, events....it's all here.
In addition, Nicole Brewer spoke on the challenges and dynamics of social reporting from a news reporter perspective who's covers this medium for CBS Channel 3 News. It's all great stuff in an industry that grows leaps and bounds each month. After doing this for over 16 months, I've created over 380 posts showing Media in some way, shape or form......others here are doing the same things for their own towns.
Thanks to Daily Times Editor, Phil Heron for putting this together. Over a year ago, myself, Stefan, Phil and a few others were in a Daily Times conference room discussing what could we really do with this medium. We knew it was evolving, but no one had any idea of how vast and far it could go. With the enthusiastic crowd that's assembled today, it's fair to say this is just getting started.

Great old time pictures and articles on Media PA
There's a site on Facebook called, "I Grew Up In Media." If you're into nostalgia and old pictures of Media, check it out. Be careful, you might spend hours looking at these photos. A lot of good ones that I remember and many more of Media through out the ages and well before my time. They even had a advertisement for the Long Horn restaurant that was was 6 miles down the road in Glen Mills.

Koffee Korner bringing out a new menu and mexican food
I stopped in the Koffee Korner today an was pleasantly suprised to see that they will be changing up the menu a bit and will also be serving mexican dishes on a daily basis. So it looks like Media will have two mexican food establishments. No word on Dos Gringos, but from the looks of the store front they are hard at work with renovations.

Septa SilverLiner V....in Media
Last week while traveling back to Media from the city, I was pleasantly surprised to see the new SilverLiner on the R3 (Media/Elwyn) Line. The delays of it's arrival have been numerous, but it looks like it's now finally in limited service.
Here are a few pics.
With enter/exit doors located a quarter way in on both sides of each car, boarding and unboarding at stops seemed much quicker. It was also nice to hear the automated announcements of the current and next stops.
