…and about those political yard signs.

Please take down your sign!

I’ve never heard anyone complain after an election about having their political yard sign stolen.  In fact, I’m sure some may be quietly hopeful what was alleged as a “theft” two day ago, now becomes a good deed.  However, it’s safe to say the market for used yard signs is zero and if they didn’t blow away during superstorm Sandy, they’ll be around for awhile.

To this end, I think we can all agree it’s time to take the signs down.  If there are signs in areas that may be on municipal, abandoned or public property, please consider taking those down too.  Or let me know where they are, and I’ll have someone take them down.

  1. Good call! They're all fun while the election in going, but need to go away after.

  3. There were many signs on public property leading up to the election, and from what I saw they were mostly for Republican candidates (or anti-Obama signs, such as: "Keep America Free, Fire Obama")...it's quite possible that if there had been Obama signs on public property in the Borough they were taken, as I never saw any.

I found it offensive and inappropriate to see the area of 5 Points and the intersection of Orange St. & Rose Tree Rd. littered with signs. I actually called the Borough to find out if it was legal to place advertising of any kind on public property and they said no. They told me they would have them removed, but they were never gone and they are most likely still there as we speak.

Regardless of who your candidates are, I would like to suggest that for future elections we all respect the public spaces and put up all the signs you want on your private property but to follow the Borough's laws and refrain from placing them on public land. It's especially annoying once the election is over and the people who put them up do not return to remove them. It's ugly, illegal and irresponsible.

    2. I agree! That's why I think that Tedman's plea is especially relevant: most of the signs left around are Republican.

  4. Perhaps you should figure out what is public property and what is not, the corner at 5 points is private property. The property owner allowed the Borough to put their sign up. If it bothers you that much I will ask him to take down the Borough's sign too!

    1. Where do you speak of? The triangle of grass that's between Providence and Monroe? And which Borough sign do you speak of? Who owns the property you are referring to?

Judging from the tone of your reply you know the owner and are a Republican, as there was a gigantic Romney/Ryan sign on the fence above the patch where the signs are/were. I'd assume if it'd been Democratic signs it'd bother you, too.

If you know the owner and he allowed these signs why had he not taken them down as Tedman suggested once the election was over?

  8. Anon 9:09 That's just mean and rude. I'm sure if your guys had won you'd be screaming about any Dem signs left up. Being a sore loser is not becoming. And, the negativity obviously didn't win the GOP the election...maybe it's time to give it up already?? It IS possible to work together, you know.

As of today, I've only seen Rep signs left around town...haven't been by 5 points today, but as of this evening there are still Rep signs at Rose Tree & Orange. The person who put them there obviously has no plans to remove them. Anyone? Tedman?

  10. Thanks Tedman! That was a very good move by you, and I hope your example is heeded by your fellow Republicans in future elections, and that we can all agree to leave signs off public property going forward! At LEAST have the decency to remove them if you have the gall to put them on public land in the first place (where they are not allowed anyway!). It's littering after all. Cheers!
