Media's Super Wawa: It's got a ways yet to go....

After Third St. Bridge, is this Media's next mismanaged fiasco?
To oversimplify, the proposed Super Wawa for Media faces two large hurdles it'll need to navigate through if it's to be a reality.  Based on today's delcotimes report by Susan Serbin, the zoning of the property will need to be sorted out between MRE (Media Real Estate) and Media Borough.  The second issue, and equally as important, will come down to how the traffic will be mitigated for this site.

Unfortunately for this situation, borough council hasn't shown any leadership, resolution or initiative to drive policy that will be vital for this project, or any project.  This is essentially the same core crew and mindset that took years to sell 1 West State Street after repeated mistakes as a landlord, 15 years to erect and network traffic lights, and of course, 16 years to take action on a bridge that was recently funded 18 months ago and STILL IS NOT EVEN STARTED.

Good luck to Wawa, Good luck to MRE and Good luck to residents and business who feel having another Wawa is good for the community.

  1. 2 Banks 1 Hamburger eatery all gone in less than 2 months. It would seem to me the Borough - Council - would welcome an established business like WaWa! The is the same post I put to Citi Bank's closure. To me this really is a "no brainer" - their home office / corporate office address is MEDIA!!! But folks in UP Twp share the same address and Council is alienating them by some assinine decision to make 3rd Street Bridge one way into town. Makes me think of the Broadway musical Brigadoon! We can come in but on doing so we just might fade into the mist trying to come home.

  3. This should be a "no brainer" I agree, I've been new to reading this blog it blows my mind that Media"s so called leadership can't find a solution. Question.. Are the so called leaders to comfortable in there positions? That eyesore of property that was the old Media Inn is the first thing people see as they come up Baltimore Pike from the blue route or wherever there coming from. You have an established business with major ties to the community not some unknown entity that wants to expand in your town.Hello. Also I'M sure it will create a few jobs as well. To Media's leadership get your head out of your ass and figure this out.

  4. What do you expect from this inexperienced and confrontational group. Between Media Council, the out of control, pathetic planning board, and the asshole MRE has representing the project it is no wonder nothing has been accomplished. MRE's "vice president", is a total hack who couldn't close a door let alone a project like this. Too much bad history between him and council.

  5. I am okay with council thinking this through, the traffic will be an issue and as nice as it is to say "Just do it!", you have to think these things through. I have almost been hit a million times by idiots trying to get and out of starbucks.

I fully support this wawa and live close to that intersection. I don't want council dilly-dallying for political reasons, but can they be patient if they are legitimately doing research on traffic.

Ted, I realize that you don't like the council, but there were many people on the council for many years that you supported that got nothing done also. I have no allegiance to any particular person, I realize it is a collective failure of everyone that has ever sat on that council, not just the current council members.

  6. Yes I too like the WAWA idea but trafffic from Providence rd.is a hassle now.no doubt there will be idiots attempting to leaveto go 252 N trying to cross two lanes of traffic..and idiots going North 252trying to enter via Prov rd.entrance as opposed to entry at Balt. pike..make it work..hey council might make 252 one direction...bettrer yet just close 252 and make it bike ped friendly.

  7. I support Wawa's expansion, but the traffic will be a nightmare and the Wawa at 252/Rt.1 will probably close. Create new jobs and beautify an eyesore in the borough to lose jobs and create an eyesore in Rose Tree? There must be a better solution. How about a park!

I would be for the WaWa at the cite. But? And it is a big BUT. The Starbucks parcel fronting Providence & Baltimore Pike is the sore thumb sticking out, as far as traffic flow and safety is concerned. A traffic nightmare waiting to happen.

Solve this issue and I would say YES to Wawa.
