Media in Two Minutes!

Media in Two Minutes - This week's run down.

We need a bigger "House!"
No, not me, but the well known eatery called House on Jackson Street.  Well, looks like that is in works with recent news that they will expand into the vacated premises left by Tea and Cakes.  This will make the place three times bigger.   The menu will also expand to include brunch and dinners, along with their great lunches.  In addition, they will also be taking over the food services at BLCC Swim Club this summer.

Know this: This is one of maybe three places that people literally stop me on the street to tell me how good the food is at House.  I've been there and can attest, but if you haven't, check out what everyone is talking about.

Pinocchio's Pizzeria is making dough!
I meant that in the literal sense, but having been to Pinocchio's for a family outing, I'd have to say they are doing very well with the business side of making dough too.  At 6:30pm on Saturday, the placed is packed with a wait to get a booth.  Even at 5:30pm when I was there, it fills up quickly.

There's something to be said about watching the pizza makers spin dough in the air as they've done for decades.  It's very reasonable and the food and service was great.  If you haven't been there in awhile, check it out.

Media/Upper Prov. Library receives grant!
I was contacted on Friday with news that the Media/Upper Providence Library received a $500,000 Keystone grant to help fund the $2.5 million renovation project.  Congratulations to their board which has really worked hard for this passionate cause.

Media's 5 minute, $20,000 Informercial - Where is it?
Back in July 2012 Mayor Bob McMahon was contacted by a company looking to do a video segment about Media for their show, "Today in America."  Surprisingly, it was found that Media would have to pay $20,000 to be on the show.  Not the entire show, but five minutes worth.   If that's not bad enough, it was brought to the Mayor's attention that the company in question was investigated and fined by the Florida State Attorney General for fraudulent claims!

Bad Leadership costing Media, PA
Mayor Bob McMahon and Council President Brian Hall for reasons unknown, proceeded with this Florida based company without ever putting this kind of production video work out to bid.  Bids that would have been submitted by companies that do this type of work here in Media.  When asked formally by letter why weren't the taxpayers and local business better represented after learning these findings, Mayor Bob McMahon stated he didn't have time to reply.  And never did.

So when will this video be shown?  Hard to say because it's not likely to be shown in this television market.  As for who will see it, not many.  Check out the listing!  Looks like this $20,000 is going to be nothing more than a 5 minute Youtube video.

  1. Sounds like Media got ripped off by another unethical company, and bamboozled by a mayor who doesn't like answering for his actions. Hmm ironic that things that NEED to be done get left on the back burner for years and a very optional waste of taxpayer money getting rammed through city council!

    1. Ripped Off??? I went to the website - Today in America - and can not find anything on Media. Hopefully, something is there and I simply am not looking in the right place or at the right link. Maybe council had it confused with "Where in the world is Matt Lauer" from The TODAY show!

    2. Or, Cindy, where is Waldo? He is there but try and find him. This is what you get for 20K. A puzzle? How about telling the Mayor about a bridge in New York....

    3. I went to the link "Check out the listing" - are we to assume we (Media) are the Philadelphia - Allentown - Bethleham - Reading area?? I still don't understand how it can be seen. Maybe I should've asked that at council tonight.

  2. Allied Pixel is right here in Media.
They would have given the business to a local company. Oh, and we are a top notch, ethical, state of the art company.

  4. It's funny how Brian Hall and Kent Davidson ran on a platform of providing transparency for issues that directly impact Media tax payers but have done the exact opposite. After a year of, outright lies, obvious conflicts of interests, reversal of votes for no apparent reason any pretense of transparency is gone. Just another of a laundry list of promises that can never be fulfilled when you ave no leadership to shape an agenda that provides to the greater good of the borough verse persoal interests.
Do you hear me Kent? Your conflict of interest on 3rd St is a disgrace to anyone who has ever served on council. Hall allowing you to vote or participate on 3rd St issues is a disgrace to anyone who has ever served on council.
Wakeup Media you deserve better thaan conflicted councilpeople selfishly "protecting" a park they have no claim to. Whatever happens with the Judge Proud decision will not matter as Hall has allowed Media Council to run into the ground through lack of interest and desire to lead. it won't matter because kent Davidson, added by Hall, has made a joke of Borough Council.

    1. they're not protecting a park, they're protecting their own home values.

    2. So you know how home values would be evaluated based on this decision? Please explain.

    3. Anon 8:31 are you a real estate expert? Maybe home values would go up if the road were opened. Put aside your bias and as anon7:12 asked please explain your reasoning.

  5. I've never seen a more arrogant group than what's now on boro council. Hall's lost control and the mayor checked out years ago. They just don't care.

  6. "The people have spoken, and they must be punished." So said the late Mayor Koch of NYC after losing an election. This applies also to Media Borough. The Democrats won the last election in Media by the biggest landslide in borough history. So ,residents, take your punishment,if you don't like what's happening.

  7. Couldn't agree more Mike, the residents are getting exactly what they wanted an experienced, selfish, and conflicted public servants who ran on a platform full of lies. At least the last council acted on issues that have plague the Borough for years including sale of 1 West State which was a drag on borough resources/budget and outside of any municipal charter to play in real estate market. They also secured $750,000 in funding to fix 3rd St dam and settled a 16 yr mess in 6 months time! Even though the ambulance chasing attorney and Council President Hall calls it the worst stipulation in history. What is his solution? He has chosen the priorities of selfish special interests verse the public good including, and most importantly public safety of Borough and surrounding community.
I guess the residents thought that the last council was not worthy of relection based on their accomplishments and choose this mess instead. Good luck with this pathetic crew run by the phonies on Parks Edge and western precient. Good to know they control the borough agenda instead of council.

  8. Any truth to a 'conflict of interest' ordinance that will retroactively absolve this council of their transgressions against the borough and the surrounding community? I hear the guy who blogs and updates the FROGs website from council chambers is working on it.

    1. That's like closing the barn door after the horse already left. It is appalling that ANY of Mr. Davidson's votes on the bridge project are counted. An ethical move would be to voluntarily recuse himself, but NOOOOOOOO. Let's move back a few months, and dream that Judge rules Davidson's vote a conflict, and also rules that PA borough gov't regulations determine that Ms. Simpson's 'call-in' vote in Sept was not in compliance - then, we have a 3 - 2 vote in essence overturning the one way. How amazing is it, that in 'normal' meetings, if someone is absent they are just absent - but in this case, the deck was obviously stacked by accomodating Ms. Simpson's call in vote. They knew what they were going to do all along. People need to WAKE UP to these shenanigans and not re-elect these individuals!

    2. This is what Mr. Davidson thinks justifies him not recusing himself from voting...courtesy of Media Patch comments

@KMC: Then please introduce yourself here so I know whom I'm addressing, or even better, fill out your profile as I have so you have a real-world identity. To answer your request: Pennsylvania Law requires a public official to recuse themselves from voting when they receive a direct pecuniary benefit (e.g. money) from an issue at hand. Similarly, Pennsylvania law also says that officials MUST VOTE if there is no pecuniary benefit. e.g. you can't abstain simply because you want to, or think you "should." I have spoken with our solicitor who has indicated that since I receive no money directly or indirectly from the dam project, then I MUST vote on that issue. Speculating that my personal property value goes up or down based on our decisions is insufficient evidence to abstain. To quote Paul Robinson, "In a town with an area of 3/4 of a mile, we are always going to have projects which are near our homes." Finally, I stated in the March meeting which I assume you saw televised that I would vote with the will of Media residents. More than 500 Media residents signed a petition in 2011 saying they wanted a greenway, and we surveyed residents in 2012 who favored dam removal and minimizing the impact on the park. I voted based on the majority or residents' desires. It's obvious you disagree, but as a representative, it's my duty to uphold the desires of the majority of residents, not a vocal minority.

@KMC: I have disclosed who I am. In the interest of transparency, how about you disclose who you are? Otherwise I'm talking to a Sockpuppet. You are sadly, egregiously wrong in your accusations of ethical misconduct. Ethics laws prohibit the receipt of funds by a public official for voting on a matter at hand. It does not prohibit me from donating money to local causes I believe in, or from prohibiting a family member from participating in local organizations. I also donate money to the Fair Trade Committee, the Media Arts Council, CRC Watersheds, Media Rotary Foundation, the Media Upper Providence Free Library, the Media EMS and Fire Company, and yes, Friends of Glen Providence Park to name a few. I'm also a non-voting member of Broomall's Lake Country Club. This is not unethical - it shows where I place my priorities and values. I will halt this "discussion" (if you can call it that) because regardless of what I say, you will twist it around to skew opinion against my actions and introduce doubt as much as you can. If your accusations are more than "hot air", then I dare you to not only disclose your identity, but to come to a meeting and confront me personally on these issues so we can discuss them rationally. Otherwise, I'll assume you are simply an anonymous coward with zero evidence and nothing but empty accusations.

    4. Kent Davidson's response was detailed and on point. Anyone who continues to suggest there is a conflict of interest, especially Tedman, should disclose their own personal benefit in continuing to support the Third Steet stipulation.

Tedman - why do you continue to support a multi-million investment in an unnecessary dam? Why do you routinely insert personal attacks in your blog and suggest anyone with a different view must be profiting?

It's a PUBLIBLY FUNDED road and a bridge and a dam next to PUBLIC PARK. It's not a conspiracy.

    5. On the one hand: Kent Davidson's cogent argument, supported by facts and Pennsylvania law.

On the other hand: Nothing but innuendo and insults - the last refuge of a child who knows she isn't getting her way.

      Stay classy, allthingsthirdstbridge.

    6. "Pennsylvania Law requires a public official to recuse themselves from voting when they receive a direct pecuniary benefit (e.g. money) from an issue at hand."
So, if Mr. Davidson's property goes up in value, that is 'speculation' on our part? AND according to his argument does not count as 'direct money'?
All those bull&^%t arguments don't wash. Yes, Media is a close proximity town but don't throw out that you are not close to the issue, Mr. Davidson - a spade is a spade is a spade.

    8. Now who's the dope: "directly OR indirectly" - an increase in property value most definitely is INDIRECT MONEY. Now I think the solicitor should be fired as well, is this honestly who we have running our town???
      WHo voted for these people??!!!!

    9. Yeah, personal property counts. As does the fact that he didn't disclose that he basically set up and run the FROGs website prior to being elected, and I suspect he still updates their website to this day.

This guy is more conflicted that a Philadelphia City Councilperson - and thats hard to top.

  9. Can someone wake the mayor up and ask him to ask council if they can post the $20,000 video he endorsed on the Borough's award winning $25,000 web site? Hello Bob,since you read this site every day, can you at least try and do something besides read the police report and add something meaningful to the meetings? Free idea for you, since you seem so lacking in taking interest in anything, why don't you, as leader of Public Safety, ask the Police and Fire Chief if they think reestablishing 3rd St bridge as 2 lanes is good for public safety which, in case, you didn't know you are charged with over seeing. Can't wait to you confront Ted with indignation over these posts again. At least you show a pulse when you do go after Ted verse the bored comatose leader you look like at council meetings.

  10. I think this video is dispicable. It was unnecessary. I want my two lane road back on third St. On a more positive note it great that House is expanding. Good job Mike Hackett. You've come a long way since your walking the mall with Liberty Spikes back in high school. So proud of my old friend.

  11. Wow, Edgmont and now Conshohocken reject super WaWa in their towns. Looks like Media was ahead of the curve.

  12. Now Wawa wants to be a Super Gas station. The coffee, milk and newspapers are just a second thought. The real money is in the gas. Their core business model has changed. No more stand-alone stores, telling communities take it or leave it.
