Here we go again........Borough Council Confused Again on Propsed Wawa Site

When Council President, Brian Hall says "It's a complicated" matter, start preparing for a long, confusing explanation with no end.  That was his favorite term for the Third Street Bridge, which still isn't done after 18 years.  Now he's using the same terminology for the proposed Wawa site.
Wawa gets the runaround by Boro Council

It's really quite simple Borough Council: Do you want a Wawa or not based on the 6 to 1 advisement by the Planning commission that recommends a zoning change for this type of business?  Yes or No? Instead we get double talk by Borough Council that the matter is confusing and the planning commission really is just an advisory council.  Translation: We (Boro Council) could care less what the Planning Commission thinks.

However, if you remember when the Citizen's advisory council was created for the third Street Bridge, this council couldn't wait to praise their faulty recommendations and defend their positions.  But if you don't get inline with this council, well then your committee will just be spoke down to and dismissed as an advisory one. How insulting to the people of Media.

What an embarrassment to the community and to companies looking to do business in Media.  Things need to get done around here, not swirled around for years with no clear direction and the hope that if it's ignored enough, it'll go away.

  1. 2 minutes and 11 seconds to say NOTHING other than he's not ready to make any "PRONOUNCEMENTS" ... amazing.

    1. By the way, I love his repeated use of the word "PRONOUNCEMENT" ... is he the EMPEROR of Media?

  2. I'm in favor of a Super Wawa, but there are a few questions:

    - What will the traffic look like at Baltimore & 252 as a result of building Wawa?

    - Will Wawa be forced to promise to keep the Baltimore Pike & Monroe Wawa open?

    1. Great questions, MediaMike. You make good sense. I'd like the answer to those questions, and more. It is "complicated."

  3. Is that a mannequin propped up next to Hall?

  4. Hall was backed into this one - it was Pastor Paul on the end who kept driving on the subject. Even if a project can bring jobs and revenue to the boro, if it touches 'Mister Robinson's Neighborhood' you can bet he will put the brakes on. Kudos to the planning/zoning folks who are desperately trying to keep this project on track.
While we're at it, let's talk about the 'new technology' that came out of Mr. Davidson's tech committee (you know, the one where we can take photos of cracks in the sidewalk?)- we don't know if it is a replacement of current data base, we don't know if there are soft costs involved (per Jeff Smith), but yet KD is ready to spend! Again we have to thank Ms. Rehoric for her common sense in suggesting they not vote until more information is in. SPEND SPEND SPEND - on anything other than the bridge, that is.

    1. Davidson's desperate to put his 'technology' expertise to use as it doesn't go much further than the borough or FROGS website.

  5. Advisory body-------- Mr. Hall I wish we could ADVISE the residents that you are full of " @&$@"!
The CAC was an advisory board that you praised, now you diminish the Planning Commission once they put forth a plan you and the rest of the Emperial Court on Council disagree with. Media residents deserve more than double talk from elected officials. You sir have become a disgrace. I hope next November the residents vote you all out.

  6. I wonder how the people on the Planning Commission now feel about all the time and work they spent on studying this project? If their recommendations won't even be considered, why waste their time? I feel badly for them.

  8. I'll never understand why some elected officials think they are able to speak "off the cuff" when they clearly ate not. This question was bound to come up. Why wouldn't he have prepared a better statement than that? It makes no sense. The only possible response would have been "It's not on our Agenda this evening, but we expect it will be on xxxx date". Instead, the poor guy gives his opponents a sound bite. Makes no sense.

  9. That is comical. The best part is that he was probably proud of his performance.

  11. Keep in mind, he's not completely incorrect. The PC is a purely advisory body; Council was elected to make final decisions. Volunteers on the PC should have known that going in. I respect the fact that the PC may not have completed its review; perhaps the proposal has changed since their original vote. Time will tell. The truth always comes out in the end.

  12. MediaFirst is something new. Two Dems, one Republican, one Independent -- all on one ticket.

    1. Nice gimmick, but a vote for a member of either party supports that party's platform. There's nogetting around it. I'll support the independent, thank you.

    2. 'a vote for either party supports that party's platform'
If you take that statement from a national or macro level, perhaps the statement rings true. However, when looking at the same statement from a local or micro level, Media First is about PEOPLE not PARTY. 4 individuals with different party affiliations, who are all experienced leaders and bring different expertise to the table. They see shared visions for the borough in common, despite party affiliation. They truly want to 'all get along' with neighboring townships, not making decisions that neighboring municipalities disagree with. It is a wonderful idea whose time has come, and we as residents should do as much as we can to support this type of 'tripartisanship'.

    3. You hit the nail on the head with your first statement. Not fully convinced but trying to keep an open mind.
