Media Film Festival April 5th - 6th 2013

We are quite lucky to have our own Film Festival here in Media.  That's not only a great achievement for the town, but shows the focused dedication of the Media Arts Council who work hard to put these events on.  As popular as this festival is and the attendance it draws, it could be better.

By better I mean having this event a the historic Media Theatre instead of community center that has the ambiance of a plastic cup.  I don't know if it's because of scheduling, money or politics, but to not have a "film festival" in our town's theatre really never made sense to me. And from the comments I get, doesn't make much sense to others either.  People love to go to this theatre and they like film festivals; combining the two would be a win-win for the everyone.

Despite the venue, make sure you go to this event.  Tickets can be purchased online and this year's line looks spectacular.

  1. Nice fantasy, but I am not sure the writer thought this out. Use of the theater costs money. The cost of the tickets likely would be cost prohibitive for many. Hopefully you are not suggesting the use of taxpayer dollars for this. The taxpayers (i.e. the borough) already contributes over $100,000 to community organizations and events each year. That includes the MBA, and a number of other organizations and committees in support of the community. While each is a valuable asset to community, I'm not certain that our elected officials should be using discretionary (and scarce) resources to fund them. Sometimes I'm confused as to whether a democrat or a republican is posting these articles... I've been wrong before, though.

    1. Use of the theater can not cost that much money.

Way back when that fat bag of crap Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911 came out it was screened at the Media Theater.

Surely if folks were able to rent the Theater for that garbage it would seem that the Film Festival would also be a viable option.

Media keeping it classy. Sorry kids we can not show your hard work but a sloppy political hit movie why not.

    2. It won the Academy Award. Can't be that bad. Got to see it again. To see how accurate it still is. Really shows how phony and hypocritcal our politiians are.

    3. Unfortunately, if memory serves, the movie focuses on only one side of the aisle when there's no denying that hypocrisy and phonyism are pervasive in every party. Either way, it doesn't seem like an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars imo.

    4. Good to see Judge Steve telling people what points are irrelevant.

    6. Breaking news! The borough owns the theater and charges the operators only $1 a year to rent it. The theater operators then charge anyone related to the borough (i.e. MBA) hundreds, even thousands, to use it for ONE night. Perhaps the theater operators would allow the MAC/film festival to use the theater for free for one night to further the arts in this town?? Gasp! But it's not musical theater, its film! "Sorry, MAC, no dice." RIDICULOUS.

    7. Well, perhaps when the lease expires the Borough could renegotiate the lease and reserve some time for community events such as this. But they've probably given up that right in the current lease.

    8. The author of this post seems to have this figured out. I would request that he contact the MAC and offer his services as a financial consultant and help them realize their vision.

    9. Perhaps he's not as smart as he thinks. He might not even support the MAC. Maybe he's just tired of wanna be politicians who criticize current conditions with little or no plan for improvement.

    10. Tom Bates is right. Better yet, we can just make Tedman Mayor of Media, and then he can just TELL the MAC how to do it. Time to start getting some things done again in this town using bi-partisan power.

    1. The community center when filled with seating and a theater size screen is comparable to a "real theater". Go to MAC's website and look at the gallery to see pictures of the event.

    2. It looks very nice for a small non-profit event. http://mediaartscouncil.org/category/image-galleries/media-film-festival-2012

  3. Isn't Steve and Ronald brothers or something? He is always on the Daily Times website saying something to make me laugh out loud. The way this town is run, who doesn't need a clown to cheer us up.

    1. Write in Steve and Ronald for borough council 2013. We need some bi-partisan control on things like this.

  4. Having a film festival may be a nice cultural event that provides bragging rights to a segment of the population, but somebody needs to explain to me why having a film festival is a "great achievement for the town". Is there any quantifiable evidence that demonstratesvalue. What is the importance to those who ate uninterested?

    1. Sounds like an odd question. Do you know of any other towns in the area that have Film Festivals? How would you define great? The term "great" is subjective, usually referring to being better than competition.

  6. Can't we all just get along, Steve and Mike? Your both smart guys. Keep the discussion civil and you will have more cred.

  7. All we have to do is tell people the MBA is paying for it. we just won't tell anyone that the MBA is largely funded by Borough Council with taxpayer dollars. That's how they paid for the infamous video, right?

  8. Call up Roger Ricker and Jessie Cline and ask them how much it costs to rent the Media theatre.

  9. Hey Media Borough, why don't you offer a Media Theatre a 25% reduction in rent as long as they accommodate the Media Film Festival for one weekend out of the year? That comes to $0.25! Can you handle that?
