Media in Two Minutes - Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Media in Two Minutes!
Happy St. Paddy's Day!

First thing first!  St. Paddy's day in Media isn't quite on par with Springfield PA, when it comes to celebrating, but don't think we don't get our green on here.  In fact, for the hardcore faithful, Media's own Irish Pub, Sligo's kicks off the day today at 9am.  Stephen's on State will be joining in too, with the Plumstead also showing its Irish colors with the traditional green beer.  A lot of the local restaurants serve cabbage, ham and potatoes and I hear Fast and Fancy restaurant does one of the best meals around.  They were packed on Friday.

Double Decker Pizza is on Deck
Double Decker Pizza Coming Soon!
I didn't realize how extensive the renovation work for this restaurant was until I drove by.  They're taking down walls, adding windows and gutting a large part of the building for this two-story eatery.  They'll be at it a few more months, but looks like they're bringing their "A" game to what is a very competitive "pizza" market in Media.  Looks like they'll have adequate parking too.  They'll be located at the 400 Block of Baltimore Ave.  (down the street from Starbucks)

Media Fig - Spring 2013 Edition
These ads and photo shoots aren't cheap for local businesses to be featured in Media Fig, but WOW do they capture a feel of Media!   Spring's edition doesn't disappoint when it comes to giving Media a swagger.  Good job, Fig.  I haven't seen the actual hardcopy and if you haven't either, check out the full featured online edition.

I'd also like to acknowledge Media Real Estate who I know made some generous contributions for a few groups to be represented in this issue.

Media 5 Miler
Friday June 21, 2013 is the date the for the Media 5 Miler.  The house parties may have become bigger than the run itself.  If you haven't registered, you may want to look into that as this sells out quick.  Here's the link, registration to run in this race is now open

D'Ignazio's Towne House Restaurant
The last of the family owned restaurants?  Media is unique in its own way, but losing the trolley or an iconic restaurant like the Towne House would definitely leave a gaping hole in what truly defines Media.  There are great, popular restaurants here, but none like D'Ignazio's. I miss the Long Horn Ranch and the Log Cabin Inn and hope the changing times don't take another family restaurant.

Media Residents Deserve Answers!
Is anyone paying attention on Media Borough Council?  The Mayor?  People shouldn't have to drive around the southern end of Media only to look at an abandoned building with no answers on the future of the property.  What's going to be built here and when? Why hasn't a hotel started? Will it be a hotel? Why hasn't this been knocked down? Why was is robbed last year for copper? Can a hotel now compete with Springfield's?  18 years and they still can't get a bridge fixed, but here we are 7 years later looking at this abandon building and proposed site for a hotel.  This situation isn't helping property values.  People deserve better representation! Perhaps if council showed up to meetings, we'd have answers.

  3. To the best of current understanding, the ball is in Hampton Inn's court. Their regional manager or president needs to answer that question. On the other hand, why hasn't the project between DD and Sunoco started yet? What about the project diagonally across from the tennis courts? Why hasn't the former car dealership/paratransit facility at Baltimore and Lemon been developed yet? What about the lot next to Wawa? The recession excuse is getting old. Are the owners holding out for a fortune? There needs to be some reasonableness.

  5. Agreed the towne house restaurant is an important part of the community, but lets be honest...they need a makeover...the food and atmosphere is just not good enough to compete with all of the other restaurants in town....they dont have anything really special about them that says "yes, lets go to the townhouse'...

  6. The bigger issue here is that Media is an UGLY town, there are a few folks that are doing their best to makeover small parts of the town but there needs to be a bigger effort. Row homes are dilapidating, there is garbage blowing down the side streets and local merchants can't afford to update their buildings because the rent it too high. The only people that can afford to build new are the chains, get ready for Dollar stores and Applebee's, ick.

    1. And there is nothing uglier than the travesty on Third St. Cement barricades, chain link fencing and DO NOT ENTER signs. Could have been fixed 50 times over by now - don't throw stones at privately owned real estate until you look in the direction of borough controlled projects first. State $$$ been available for many years now along with appropriate design. Now go start digging!

  8. That nitwit Johnson is running. If she runs borough council like she does the the Media Farmer's market, GOODBYE MEDIA! She can't even run a bunch of people in a parking lot!

    2. Just what we need, another member of this Urban Terrorist Group as an elected representative. Didn't we fight to free Afghanistan of a similar group?

    3. So their web guy is on council and their treasurer is running. Who's next, their facebook page admin? The one who passes out that nonsense literature to our doorsteps?

      This group is absurd.

    4. This is your chance, Tedman. Define your values and sense of courtesy when it concerns a local election. Name calling? Ridiculing direct public discourse and contact with neighbors? Unfounded allegations? Our hometown can do better than that.

    5. I agree - start by denouncing this group that has set the town backwards. We don't need another member of this NIMBY-concealed gang of hooligans dictating direction for the rest of us.

    5. I'm rubber, you're glue.................at least Tedman has the ba%%s to stand up and say what he believes, whether it's popular or unpopular I guess depends on where you live (i.e. Parks Edge??).
"Lacks ethical contacts with neighbors"? WTF does that mean? Does he steal neighbors newspapers or something? Tedman exhibits leadership, something sorely missing from this town of late.
