Media in Two Minutes

 It's Media in Two Minutes!

Aside from this blog, If you want to see what else I'm bringing to the table, almost literally, swing down to today's Media VFW breakfast buffet.  I've been asked to work the made-to-order omelet station, but don't panic, my culinary skills are much better than my poor attempts at humor.

Great things happen when the community pitches in to help one another, and this event is one of them.

Media's Biggest Dip!
If you like roller coaster rides, or even it you don't; you'll certainly get the experience when driving down N. Orange Street towards Upper Providence.  It's not easy to see and comes up on drivers quick, but if you been over this way you've certainly felt the notorious "Dip" in the road.

It not only seems to have gotten worse over the last few months, but I'd even consider it a danger for those who aren't  familiar with it.  Even at the legal speed limit, it provides a very noticeable jolt that feels like it swallows up your whole vehicle.

Best of Luck To Team Sligo - Tour de Shore
If you're out representing Media, you get spot light status on ATM.  Best of Luck to Media locals,  Team Sligo who will be biking to AC tomorrow for the Tour de Shore event.  We hope they'll provide updates a long the way.

Worlds' Richest Man Lives in Media....sort of.
Media, PA doesn't make the world news much, but when you had the richest man living here, word travels fast.  Even if it was only for a few hours and more of an accounting mistake than personal fortune, Media was the home of a quadrillionare.  Here's the whole story.

Farewell to the Lima Wawa
This turned out to be a bigger story than I thought, but I knew the history of this store meant a lot to the people in the community.  Thanks for the comments that were posted in memory of this store.  This location was more than just a Wawa, it was a store that was part of the Middletown community fabric.

The Motel Providence

People overlook this motel as NOT being a true hotel/motel in Media.  That could be debatable, but one thing is for sure it that this business certainly doesn't get a lot of love from Media.  I've never stayed here, so I can't speak from experience, but I will say they deserve credit for keeping the place presentable.  With a recent paint makeover and a cleaned up parking lot, they are trying which is appreciated.

I can't say that about the proposed Hampton Inn site that is directly across the street.  The place looks like nobody cares.  Perhaps nobody does, including borough council.

Peroni Movie Night at Ariano and Dos Gringos
I'm not sure how this turned out last Thursday evening on Olive St., but I have to give a lot a credit for the group that attempted this concept.  It not only sounded like a good idea, but showed some real ambition in attempting to make the Media scene better.  I hope it went well and they consider trying it again.

Media gets Trashy
Nothing trashes up Media more than abandoned shopping carts on State Street.  Here's a prime example I saw yesterday that was even being used as a trash can.  This isn't an isolated incident as I've seen many shopping carts just left wherever.  There's no need for an ordinance or a committee created to address this, just don't be lazy and return you CARTS!

  3. That dip on Orange St. has been there for awhile. I always slow down there and try to ease over it. Someone has scrawled Pendot on it. Slowing down can be difficult if a car is riding your bumper.

  4. Marking "PENNDOT" on it doesn't necessarily make it 100% out of the borough's purview, but it's a valiant effort to deflect partial responsibility.

  5. I guess Ted wants the borough to repair the road?

  6. It would be nice to have the dip smoothed out. Can someone report it as a sinkhole? That got action.

  7. Anyone can call 1-800-FIX ROAD to report roadway maintenance concerns on state roads

  8. Tedman what's up with th tarps on the fence at BLCC?

    1. They put those tarps up because they have raised the lake back up to its full level.

    2. It's to hide that the lake has been allowed to rise way higher than the DEP mandated level.

    3. How can BLCC raise the lake? Do they have a magic wand? If the water level is rising it is because of the rain. The DEP came down and dismantled the device BLCC had to increase or decrease the water level. The neighbors on fourth St. saw to that. THe tarps are probably for PRIVACY. After all it is a private club.

    4. It's simple, anon 4:02, no magic powers needed. The Swim Club simply blocks the pipe that keeps the level lowered. They don't realize that this works against them in that the pipe will be unblocked again at some point, exposing the one-third of the lake that is marsh, which will again stink for weeks. If the club had kept the lake level lowered as they have been instructed, plantings would reestablish themselves on the marsh and it would no longer stink and would begin to support wildlife once again.

    5. Hmmmm. "Swim club simply blocks the pipe that keeps the level lowered".....How would YOU know that, Anon?
Anon 11:13 has just exposed him/herself as the culprit who has been trespassing on the private property under dark of night. DEP has stated that NOBODY (even BLCC) should be messing with what they've done over there, so BLCC is powerless to correct anything. However, some anti-establishment individuals have taken matters illegally into their own hands, which seems to a faction associated with Anon 11:13.
Wow, ATM now turns into CSI!!

  9. Most likely the screening is up to keep nosybodies out of private business.
Now BLCC is being asked to control the weather (in the wettest July ever on record!) and how much rain falls into the lake??!!?
People need to GET A LIFE and find something more constructive to do than tattle on BLCC. What is this, kindergarten??

    1. Maybe if BLCC played by the rules no one would feel the need to tattle...

    2. It's a shame that something as stupid as a bridge divides this community month after month. This was never a problem until the Friends of Glen Providence park made it a personal issue.

What a dreadful town this place has become.

    3. Removing a posted notice and violating a DEP warning regarding lake level borders on criminal. Expecting the PA taxpayers to build another high hazard dam for BLCC makes this PUBLIC business.

    4. There's a bail of hay blocking the drain .

    5. You said it right, Mr. Slayer: PRIVATE BUSINESS. That's why taxpayer money should't be funding reconstruction of a dam whose sole purpose is to preserve a lake owned and used exclusively by a PRIVATE BUSINESS!

    6. Anon 5:09 - This was reported as a problem back in 1980 by the Army Corps of Engineers. The fact that the Friends of Glen Providence Park have been cleaning up the park, scheduling hikes and concerts and educating the community on dam removal helps to keep Media a wonderful town. Perhaps it is your position on the Third Street project which is too dreadful to defend.

    7. Frog Slayer is just a tool for the club. He implies that it was just the rainfall in July that raised the lake to full. I guess the drain to the waterfall got accidentally plugged and the club said oh well it is what it is. You would have to think that if the dam were to fail it is now the club's responsibility entirely.

    8. Frog Slayer is a tool, alright....

  10. The PA legislature has now adjourned for Summer without passing a Transportation funding bill. So, in the next few weeks about half the bridges in the state will be posted with weight limits; PennDOT has been putting off doing this for some time. Do the Math here, folks: the State doesn't have the money to fix its travelled bridges. They're sure not gonna build a new Dam for Broomall's Lake Country Club!

    1. We could put a culvert in that Dam and put back the road AND help the club repurpose the marsh for less than the $1.4 million that's in PennDOT's TIP funding for us for 2015. If the Swim Club is smart, they'll drop the lawsuits and get with the program before they get the rug pulled out from under them. Then it would all be up to them and the County to pay for.

  11. Friends of GP did not exist until funding was finalized. They will disappear once the bridge is completed. They are only interested in their own agenda. FACT!
I do not care bridge, dam .I just want to stop having to use my gas to drive out of my way so the elitist NIMBYS get their way.I am not a BLCC member. But applaud them for their efforts against these terrorist.

    1. Because we all know BLCC has no agenda at all. ::rolleyes::

  12. Media is squeezing out the working force and all of the unique artists and creative businessmen that come with it. Soon the trust fundies will only have each other for entertainment and they puzzle over who will make the sustainable tempura sushi rolls and who will teach them yoga.
