Third Street Bridge - Media Borough Council is not functioning due to Political Agendas

Having sat in Judge Proud's courtroom this morning listening to yet another hearing on the Third Street Bridge; I can only sadly say that the fiasco continues with no real break through on fixing the matter.  It is becoming very apparent though that Media Borough Council is not functioning as a governing body, but believe it or not, that's not the worst part the community should be concerned about, which I'll explain.

Testimony was provided by former and present council people, BLCC and an expert engineer; which after three hours didn't move the Judge one way or another.  In my opinion it was a waste of time and nothing was said that hadn't been said or presented before.  The irony in all of this is is that the real decision that borough council can't seem to grasp, or even explain; is why they won't let it be built as a two-way roadway, and subsequently open it as a one-way....that could resolve the issue today and at least secure the Penndot funds!

In fact, after 3 hours the borough did not present even one argument as to why they are holding this project up, let alone an explanation if the money was still available via PennDot.  I suppose political agendas aren't permissible in court as valid positions, but why else would the borough not want to resolve this matter if that wasn't the case?  As a taxpayer, we deserve an explanation, and so do adjacent communities, first responders and our school district.

What may now be a bigger issue than the bridge and something that to me is an outrage, was the witness testimony given by BLCC President, Paul Cavanagh  stating that Council President, Brian Hall told him that if they didn't get on board they'd lose their lake.  Mr. Hall was given a chance to take the stand to state that his words were misrepresented and he was referring to DEP's direction, but I don't buy it. In fact, I'd like to know if anyone else in the community was threatened this way by a council person and if thinly veiled threats are how this council does business.

In my opinion and long experience I've had with this town, Media is quickly sliding backwards on many crucial fronts.  Whether it's the Third Street Bridge, the borough's disconnect with a proposed hotel, the Wawa lawsuit, misplaced solar parking meters, N. Olive Street garage mismanagement or the conduct of council members; the lack of leadership and incompetence is beginning to affect the well being of this town.

  5. I just don't understand why everyone cares SO much about the 3rd street bridge that it becomes a "political agenda"

Don't get me wrong, I'm outraged at the shenanigans that have gone into keeping it closed; but what exactly is an open 3rd street good for? (other than as a detour if repairs are needed to the far side of Orange)

    1. According to the police, fire department , ambulance services, rose tree media school district and many others opening the road way would reduce response time and save money and lower emissions. Just saying........

    1. All plans so far include two way for emergency vehicles.

    2. If that is true --- that all plans include two way traffic for emgy access, then the notion that a few very entitled landowners are blocking this project starts to gain more credibility.

    3. It does seem apparent that entitled Upper Providence Twp landowners have influenced process - maybe they can persuade their local government to share cost of sidewalk (or buy an ambulance)?

    4. WTF "entitled Upper Providence landowners"???? Fact: UPT has no inclination to change their part of Third St to a 'one way'. UPT has repeatedly indicated they will not be sidewalking Third St (no need to), and UPT pays a fee to have the EMT come from Media Borough so in essence helping to fund the Media Fire Co that their own borough council seems to have forgotten about.
May I direct you to the two conflict-of-interest Media council members who live at 3rd and West and Parks Edge and should not be voting or including themselves into any discussions because of a blatant personal interest in keeping traffic out of their neighborhood and don't be throwing blame into UPT where it doesn't belong.

  8. There is a lot of work going on at Third and West Streets although I was always under the impression that permits were required for such extensive work. Has Media Boro let that requirement drop?

    1. It's probably Councilman Davidson's house who does whatever he wants anyway. No need for permits, no one will enforce it. He doesn't even shovel his walkways in winter.
