Media in Two Minutes

Media in Two Minutes

I want to let the community know, that I just don't have the time to do a Turkey Drive this year for the Media Food Bank.  Last year between the help of Nativity Youth Group and the 37 turkeys I was able to raise through donors, we were able to deliver almost 100 turkeys.  I challenge those who take the time to read this to step up and see if you can beat 100 turkeys!  I'd love to see that record smashed and will offer any assistance or fundraising I can.

Penncrest Football Beats Radnor
It's been a challenging season for the Lions, but they did go on to beat the Radnor Raiders on Friday evening 7 to 6.  Penncrest Football's last game of the season is on Halloween (10/31) where they take on Maple Newtown.

Biking in Media
I haven't seen one of these in Media yet, but they are becoming popular in urban areas.  This is one of a few models that Urban Arrow offers.  With electric assist and a rain shield, this might not be a bad way to get around the borough with the kids.

TAXES - Media Borough Council's Spending Spree
Rates must be good, as Media Borough Council is preparing to go on a spending spree which will require a significant amount of borrowed money to finance the Media/Upper Providence Library project.  This project includes constructing an entirely new building at the site the one is currently on.  It's not yet clear how much will be borrowed, how the money will be allocated (grant vs. loan) or how this will have an affect on local taxes.

Is this such a good idea?  With many municipalities facing budget cutbacks and further expenses with things like funding fire departments; should Middletown, Edgemont, Media and Upper Providence work together on funding a group library and technology center?

Media Hotel
After what's been 8 years of the eye sore of an abandoned building and potential fire hazard; the developers of the proposed Hampton Inn property are making plans to raze the structure on this site.  Still no word on what we'll happen after the demolition, but with the building gone, it makes the property easier to sell.

Media's Restaurant Bubble?
Is the Media restaurant bubble about to burst on State Street?  What I often refer to as the State Street Food Court, may have in fact reached it's zenith.  I've been told by a few sources that there may be a significant announcement regarding a restaurant closure.

Project on Baltimore Avenue Bogs Down
Not sure what's behind the reason this project has halted, but it's been unfinished for months.  I believe townhomes/apartments were expected at this site.

You are now under Surveillance
Said/did nothing about Surveillance Cameras on State Street.
Nice job by Mayor McMahon and the rest of borough council pretending to be concerned over the questioned raised by residents about the surveillance cameras installed on State Street, but as typical, they failed to significantly answer any questions and went right ahead with doing what ever they wanted.

My question to the this borough is: Who on borough council even took five minutes to even care what was happening with this project.  I've yet to see any statement, position or even assistance explaining the situation to the community from Council people Kevin Boyer, Amy Johnson, Lisa Johnson or Sayre Dixon.  Either they didn't think it was important enough, or where too intimidated to speak up.

WAWA Update
I wouldn't call the Wawa Project proposed at the old Media Inn location dead, but it is still in the courts which would make one think so.  There hasn't been an update on this in sometime, but we may hear some news by the end of the year.  Call it a hunch.

  1. TM --- Absolutely communities should combine their efforts and build the best library / tech center. Unfortunately, we just doubt have the "x" factor... a unifying voice, a true leader who transcends party politics and ideologies to break down municipal boundaries and do the right thing for the common good.

  2. I don't think they'll need to increase taxes of they plan to borrow a reasonable amount of money. There's a LOT of fluff in the annual budget. Take, for example, the $40,000 "public information officer" in the police budget. We don't even have a Public Information Officer. Oh, and how could we forget the $60,000 "contingency"? I guess that's a slush find of our tax dollars to pay for whimsical projects like surveillance cameras and promotional videos. Ugh. So there are two piles of money that can pay the debt service on $2 million over 20 years.

  3. NEW MEDIA-UP LIBARY NOW IS INSANE. THEY DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO DO IT RIGHT.
NO 1% ELITES WITH DEEP POCKETS IS COMING FORWARD. JUST A FEW IDEALISTS ARE PUSHING IT. IF YOU DON'T DO IT RIGHT, DON'T DO IT AT ALL.

  4. Cameras on state street - awesome. Does this mean that at council meetings, when Davidson isn't watching Latvian porn on the laptop, he's watching us all?
