MAY 29 – 30 MARKS 8th ANNUAL MEDIA FILM FESTIVAL

May 2015 (MEDIA, PA) – The Media Arts Council is preparing to roll out the red carpet and put up the big screen at the Media Theatre for this year’s Media Film Festival set for May 29th and 30th.  A number of exceptional local films along with others from as far away as Finland, Iran and Australia will be shown during the 2 day Festival, now in its 8th year.  “The enthusiastic reception we get from the community makes all the hard work worthwhile.  We are very proud of this lineup of films and we have built a strong partnership with the Media Theatre which allows us to present the films on a large screen with HD and digital sound,” says Dave Scheivert, Chair of the Media Film Festival Committee, the group of local volunteers who screen and select the films.
The festival program is made up of a wide variety of short, independent films including dramas, comedies, documentaries, animation and even experimental films.  The Media Film Festival is sponsored by the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Michael R. Rhile Carpentry and the Borough of Media.  To view the official Festival Trailer or purchase tickets visit www.mediafilmfestival.org
Opening the 7pm Friday and Saturday evening programs are the world premieres of films created by local high school students under the mentorship of a professional filmmaker as part of the Media Youth Film Initiative, “MyFi”, a program created by the Media Arts Council in partnership with the Media Youth Center.  The always-popular Friday Night Horror Fest will start at 10:30pm.  On Saturday there will be a 3:00pm matinee.

Celebrity hosts for the festival will include Media’s husband-wife team of Fox 29’s Sue Serio and actor Bill Vargus on Friday evening.  On Saturday evening Charlie Maxx takes over.  Maxx, who lives in Media with her family, is co-host of John & Charlie in the Morning on WJBR-FM in Wilmington where she is also Program Director
