What really is the objective of Media's Speed Radar Display?

The mystery around what the borough intends to do to prevent speeding down Media streets has taken another turn.  Last week there was a speed display radar on 5th St. (Councilman Robinson's street),  which has since been removed and relocated to North Jackson Street by 7th Street.

Is the intent just to move this display around to individual streets?  What's really the point of that since the speeding just returns after a few days to the street the display was formerly on.  In fact, where's the explanation of this effort and why isn't it posted to let people know what's going on? Who gets to decided where the display goes?

Is this really the solution residents on 5th and 6th streets petitioned for regarding speeding?  Or is it, "Lets just hope residents see we attempted something, knowing that it does nothing to address the problem  maybe they'll just stop complaining."

Well other then the fact that the RESIDENTS and VOTERS of Media overwhelmingly voted in the council it would seem that anyone with more then two functioning brain cells would recognize this as the first step in reminding people what the speed limit is and how fast they are actually going. As for where and when the radar sets are placed I would imagine the Police control that. It would appear the republicans are calling for a "Nanny State" solution as opposed to an attempt by the Police trying to gently and least intrusively let the residents and visitors know they are exceeding the speed limit and to slow down. If this isn't successful more proactive measures can be taken. That seems like the responsible way an adult Council looking out for the residents of Media would behave. It would appear republicans feel the iron boot Nanny State approach is correct!

  2. Tedman, you do such a nice job (and a wonderful service to the community) of reporting all the goings-on in and around Media. So, I'm always saddened when you seem unable to pass up any opportunity to negatively politicize any story relating to a decision made by Borough Council. After many such stories, all your loyal readers are painfully clear on exactly where your political opinions lie. Please, do more of the reporting that you do so well and less lambasting of our elected officials.
    Though I don't know you personally, your obvious community spirit leads me to believe that these sometimes nasty screeds are beneath you.

  3. Maybe they want to quantify how real and how widespread the problem is rather than just where the squeaky wheels live.
    I've gotten that urgent "SLOW DOWN" wave from someone on 5th, when doing 20-25. I'm not saying there is no speeding problem on 5th, but at least one resident is a lousy visual judge of speed. Real, accurate measurements are absolutely called for before calling in the troops.

  4. I have to admit, I agree with dm22's post. Lately when I read this blog it doesn't seem geared to helping inform the public; rather it's trying to whip people into a lather over Democratic members of council. What's the point? Other than overt partisan politics, which have become so ugly, divisive, and destructive? Instead of making the goal quashing the ideas of "the opposition," why not try offering alternatives? Or working with local officials to devise solutions to the problems you see? If you still feel the need to present a partisan stance, then take a page from (Republican) Teddy Roosevelt's book:

    "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.     1. Anonymous (9:22am) you seemed to have perfectly contradicted yourself by posting as anonymous, especially by quoting Roosevelt.

      What arena have you placed your self in? I've run for public office multiple times.

      "Dust, sweat and blood; worthy cause"? Let's see your blog and what you're doing for Media!. I have the courage to at least stand up for what I believe and attach my name to it.

      Offering alternatives? just yesterday, I created a video of the problem people are having with submitting an incident to publicstuff.com, Media's incident management site. Having notified the borough via FB, they deleted the post. https://youtu.be/19gXSg7jzkI That said, I've offered hundreds of alternatives, where are yours?

      If you don't like the blog, don't read the blog. I've brought more awareness and assistance to this community than anyone I can think of. Thousands of people visit this site every week, so how would you explain that?

  5. Tedman let the limousine Liberals have there say. They all walk in lock step and will never admit 8 years after hope and change we have anger and disillusionment. Once Trump wins in Nov. I'm sure they well all react like whinning children.

Trump's a silver-spooned failed businessman, a whining billionaire global threat, who takes his own glittery business overseas, fails to pay his contractors in the United States, and whom many in the GOP are abandoning. He is a delusional man who yells at babies, mocks the disabled, disrespects our military. He is unaware of current events, has threatened foreign espionage, suggested violence, exhibits the gift to offend and the inability to communicate with foreign powers. If he takes the throne, we're sitting ducks. Free speech is essential, as well as getting out of media echo chambers. As Americans we are spoiled brats, travel outside our country - you'll learn to appreciate what we have - as well as how our brilliant founders fought against this type of Trump dictatorship cult that's developed.

  7. A well stated argument. Overweight people are obviously not to be taken seriously. Such wit too, "man-child" is he a man? Is he a child? Perhaps a bit of both? Obviously to big to be a boy though! Bravo! Clever turn of phrase there!! You surely owned the Internet with that jibe. Let no one say you lack self esteem or need to compensate for any shortcomings.

  8. Unfortunately results are temporary. These signs are also expensive; it's standard practice to move them around.

    *The only sure fire way to slow down drivers is a constant Police presence.
