  1. Public space in the Borough is so limited, so if this can be turned into a park that would be a huge plus. There is a ton of public funding available for preserving or restoring green space that cost to taxpayers in the Borough to acquire this piece of land should be little if any, while providing an amenity that could benefit many.

    1. Public space in the Boro is so limited?

      Glen providence park
Play ground at the municipal building
Play ground at the 5/6 center
      Barrell Field/ Tennis courts
Park at the end of South Ave
      Plum St Mall

For a Boro less than one square mile that's a lot of "Public space"

    2. Another park would be highly preferable to seeing another house crammed into open space.

    3. Assuming than Anon meant green space... In the actual Borough? Glen Providence Park is in Upper Providence, Barrell Field is owned by the school district, park at end of South Ave also in Upper Providence, not the borough. Plum St Mall, sure, but it's not green.

    4. Is media borough that egotistic that they must have their own park
Why can't they look at all the amenities
Holistically and to be fair who cares if Glen providence park is in upper providence, the park on south avenue upper providence, and the rose tree media school district owned
Barral ball fields enjoy what you got
And take care of residents tax dollars not by buying land for a park

    5. All of the funds the Borough spends on acquiring the park will be reimbursed through grants that are available to preserve greenspace. The cost to taxpayers will be negligible.

  2. Tedman -- who made you take down the park post? I see it was also deleted from your facebook.... interesting...

  3. Here's what was discussed last night regarding the park.

Council doesn't know who'll pay for the park.

Council doesn't know the cost of creating and maintaining the park.

Council doesn't know if eventually basketball courts will be placed there.

Council doesn't own the property yet.

Council doesn't care if you object to a park being built essentially in existing residents' backyards.

Council has zero sympathy for you if your quality of life will negatively be impacted by the park.

Council has zero sympathy if your property value decreases.

Council has no interest in correcting a property division mistake made years ago (properties were subdivided wrong).

If you are interested in a park in your backyard there are several residents on Fifth willing to sell to make your dream come true.

    2. I'm one of the residents near the park who will definitely be selling if a public park is part of my backyard. I'd be for it too if it wasn't going to be an extension of my backyard. I'll do my best to stop it from happening by suing the borough. They underestimate what resources"poor" people may have access to. It's being plopped down in the middle of one of the few diverse and economically disadvantaged areas in Media because the borough likes the path of least resistance. But, I have nothing to lose at this point. NIMBY,damn right...

    3. How anyone could be against the Borough making a pocket here is beyond me. Only the few residents on 5th st could possibly be against something like this... they want a vacant-dilapidated lot rather than a community resource. I don't blame you if you don't want people directly behind their house at a park (or -- god forbid, the borough takes your worry to heart and just plants a bunch of trees there for good measure).. but guess what, if the Borough doesn't get it... a developer will.. and WILL build a HOUSE THERE!

Amazing how short sighted some people can be.

    4. If you'd be dumb enough to sell your house because it'd be located close to a park... Please do so now so that I may buy it... Parks INCREASE property values... You ever look at a Real Estate listing? They list all the parks close by... Unbelievable how NIMBYs think.

    5. The builder will pay more then media borough Let another Mctownhouse and McMansion commence

      Delete
    6. Yep -- and then you have the "poor" person up there threatening to "sue" the borough to prevent them from buying it... like that person thinks it'll just remain this empty lot forever... they're gonna have a McMansion in their literal backyard! That'll teach em!

  4. Welp, incompetence has hit a whole new level with Media Borough Council. How can Brian Hall send out a letter proposing a park and not have the foggiest idea on how to answer basic questions? The owners aren't sure if they'll even sell the property to the borough.

  5. Yes by all means speak with a layer you can't trust media borough at all.
How ironic at the intersection of broomall street (Senator Broomall a friend of Abraham Lincoln) and 5th street media borough wants to low ball property purchases from the African American residents a real shame
Media borough is not above board with almost every interaction with residents

    1. If the Borough doesn't buy it, a developer will and will turn that lot into the max number of properties currently allowed... a pair of twins AND a single family house... and those people on fifth st think parking is bad now...

Hey anonymous, put your money where your obnoxious mouth is. I promise there are several owners on 5th, 4th, Olive, and Broomall who'll sell their house to you if the borough puts a park there. You can enjoy people basically in your backyard in a 6 foot high pen all hours of the day. You want a park in your backyard then start knocking on some doors and offer to purchase - otherwise your opinion carries no weight. Parks are great places for all kind of fun people to hang out doing all kind of fun things. I personally prefer McMansions, at least they'll maintain their property, add to the taxbase, be predictable, won't increase borough taxes due to purchasing/maintaining/liability, and will have a vested interest in not letting every lowlife in Media and freeloading court visitor hangout there. Yes, I'm anonymous because I don't trust our petty little theifdom in Media not to retaliate in some way for objecting to their decrees.

    1. Correct it is a theifdom let the people cash out to a developer they'll need to money to go elsewhere if that's what they want to do

    2. You ain't gonna get a single family McMansion on that lot though -- that's the problem ... you're gonna end up with townhouses like the obnoxious four-story ones on Walton's Way which still haven't sold...

      Delete
    3. Shoot - that lot is big enough, could be an apartment complex placed there... be careful what you wish for

      Delete
    4. FYI:The Walton's Way homes are two stories each. One home stacked on top of the other. They are not four story townehomes.
and they have 3 homes out of something like 30 plus left to sell.

      Delete
  7. Are you arguing semantics or are they not four stories? There are also 8 units for sale this morning on Realtor.com.

Either way, nothing preventing that from happening to that corner of Media if a developer gets it. And residents worry now about a couple people hanging out in a park... So short sighted

    1. Anon 10:13 am ----- whats your problem you an anti-semantic? Fact is each home is two stories. Which makes them sort of like condos not even townhomes when you think about it.

Realtor.com is WRONG only 3 left better hurry up and buy one before they are gone forever.

    2. Nothing like doubling down when you're wrong, eh? Here's their website:

      http://www.jeffersonsquareatmedia.com/

It literally says on it: "ACT NOW, ONLY 9 UNITS REMAIN!"

      and....

"Jefferson Square Townhomes are now available for Sale!"

.... hmm. wonder why they didn't refer to them as condos?

      Delete
    3. They call them townhones so they can charge more.
Website not updated only 3 left. If you buy one of the condos then only 2 will be left. And that would be four stories. Simple like you..

  8. How will you access the 6 foot pen? There are no sidewalks and no parking will be available. Won't the borough be liable if someone is walking down the street to access the 6 foot pen and gets hit by a car?

    1. You think the whole thing is going to be fenced in? It will be a park like setting, kinda like Houtman... is that a 6-ft pen? How does the Borough maintain liability for anyone in the entire Borough on their sidewalks or parks or playgrounds -- its called Municipal insurance, not affected by the addition of a small pocket park. Further, there are literally kids playing in that N Broomall alley right now, are you concerned about the Borough's liability on that?

      Didn't think so.

The fact that no parking will be available means guess what ... you'd have to walk there... sounds awful, doesn't it... smh

      Delete
    2. This is exactly why it won't be a loss
To anyone if a park doesn't go there
One can walk to any number of other parks that are within safe walking distance in the borough
Media polictians need to stop universally green washing everything

      Delete
    3. And that's where you're 100% wrong... this isn't gonna remain a neutral vacant lot forever... its either gonna have a shit ton of housing built on it, or it can be turned into a small sitting park.

It'd be a major loss to lose this opportunity to preserve it

    4. Its not up to the borough or whether this should be a park should it become one will media council members hold office hours In the park ?

  9. Anonymous...I'm not sure what all the huff is about. It is a residential area, and should remain so. Placing a park on that lot will look out of place. I for one, if I lived on 5th St. would not want to hear the sound of possible skate boarders, Basket balls or tennis courts. OK so maybe it will be a sitting park???? But keep in mind that will just be a hang out for what? Kids, Druggies or even worse. I find that the dishonest developers, realtors and politicians have a heavy hand in this project. I am sure at some point, even if green space goes in, the tax burden will be placed on the Media residents. So far the new homes built in Media have been an asset and have increased the value and added tax revenue to our town. Whats wrong with a nice new single home in that area it will fit in and look beautiful. From what I can see who ever renovated the corner of 5th and Orange St. did a favor with the improvements, making our town more desirable.

  10. Where Borough Hall is, is a residential area, do you see anyone clamoring for houses to be built on the Tot lot?

Plum St Mall is a sitting park, are there druggies or even worse there?

Sometimes green space can take precedence to residential development. This lot has never been built upon, it would be a shame to lose it to a fugly McMansion or four.

  11. Plum St. Mall is nice could be even nicer, if you want to put that grant to good use.
Yes there are a few undesirable that hang in that Plum Street area. What do you think it would be like out of the public eyes.
Exactly that the tot lot is only a few blocks away.

  12. So... Media residence you are now the proud owners of a $350,000.00 property located on 5th St. for green space. But That's OK since we have over $3,000,000.00 in the bank. Councilmen Robinson stated that money is already spoken for. I didn't know Media Borough/Counsel where in the real estate business. Word on the street is that it was a done deal before the meeting even started. This was a rush job if I ever saw one. Something stinky is going down.... Borough Counsel had their minds made up before the meeting ever began on they did not have their Miracle ear turned on. The many residence that spoke where against it, not one person in the audience came forth to express the desire for green space . They turned a deaf ear to the public opinions. Did you know that they applied for a grant and just maybe they will get 1/2 of the monies back sometime in the Fall, say your prayers that happens. But the cost to build and the upkeep will be at your expense. Get ready for a tax increase!!!! Shame on you borough counsel...Penney wise dollar foolish.

  13. The People spoke but they did not Listen (counsel) Media has never been know for open space and that is why the people live in the town. The people that wanted more property move to Garnet Valley and other areas that have land. This was a farce only to have control of the property. They say it is everybody home town. That did not reflect is the vote that was taken last night. The other thing I understand is that they have a side deal with the mother to place money for college education, so she will not loose her assistance. I also have heard that the mother is employed at the court house and has ties to counsel. I think a few of our counsel members should have excused themselves from the vote for conflict of interest. With the new counsel coming in we can not be guarantee that this will stay as a sitting park. It could become something much worse. AT THIS POINT I AM QUESTIONING THE LEGALITY OF THIS PROPERTY TAKE OVER OR AS THEY CALL IT A PURCHASE. CAN WE REALLY AFFORD THIS IN OUR BUDGET.................

    1. There was a $1.3 Million SURPLUS as of YREND 2016... I take it we can probably afford it, especially as West End Walk and Flats come on board in 2017 and the fact that the purchase price will ultimately be reimbursed through grants.
