    1. Good luck with that request Anon. The excessive whining over elected officials using tax revenue to improve quality of life in the Borough isn't likely to end any time soon.

  3. Yeah, as long as it improves Mike's QOL, everything is good. Nevermind that the majority of people living closest to it don't want it. But, it's Everybody's Hometown, unless you're an average shlub.

    1. Thanks for your support Anon 8:04 PM. I'll think of you as I support Council the next time they move to add additional park space.

    2. Like clockwork, every article Tedmano posts has a troll or two still complaining about the beautiful pocket park to come... For the life of me, I don't get why they harp on it so much.. Only thing I can think of is they didn't get the chance to take the plot and build three shoddy houses for a quick buck and they're mad about that.. Only thing I can think of.

  4. Ha! a pocket park that includes the purchase of the property from a borough employee who had back taxes. Only telling half the story, is biased lie, which we're becoming aware of with this group.

If you're so 'park happy', why not make an offer for the lot at 6th and Olive? Why wouldn't a park be needed there? Dread the thought it's developed, so based on that mindset, buck up!

    1. You act like it was only Borough Council they could've sold to.... Clearly, since you harp on it constantly, there was interest in acquiring it by outsiders as well.. Guess what, they were willing to take less money to sell it to whom they wanted... Not that hard of a concept to understand is it? You act like the back taxes matter... They don't. There was a lien placed and now those taxes will be payed.. Funny how that works. If they wanted they could have taken a loan out against the property to pay the taxes, but literally what's the difference?

I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to build three fugly McMansions there. Maybe in time you'll come to enjoy the park. I know I will.

    2. If Council wanted to purchase that lot for a pocket park as well, I'd also support that. And I don't have to "buck up" Anon 9:24 AM, as we all have elected officials leveraging our tax dollars for maximum effect.

    3. The buck up part will be hiring the trades and planning professionals to turn it into a park very expensive
And not in budget perhaps one of the many A&E firms could donate their time and a sign can be posted giving them credit

  5. I find it funny that Anonymous' thinks it's "whining and complaining" when someone disagrees with their point of view. Council stated that the park was not in the budget, there are unfunded maintenance issues that exist in the borough and they purchased the park without knowing what we are going to do with it or how much it will eventually cost. Does Anonymous wants to give council a blank check?
I guess Anonymous is okay that the school district has raised our taxes, and will likely have to do so again in the next couple of years (pensions), Delco and the state are talking about raising taxes and I think the borough will eventually need to, likely due to debt service.

    1. Couldn't agree more plus I guess the boroughs purposeful effort to not notifying adjacent landowners
Of the "official vote" taking place was an effort to save face and time
Because they had already drafted an agreement of sale and already knew they had the votes - so adjacent landowners just came out for no reason but to watch tax dollars be spent without a purpose process and payoff in place
The park could increase the quality of life for residents but at a great cost- if some economic rigor using a cost benefit analysis were used it likely would have to been funded

    2. If and when the County and Borough raise taxes, it ain't gonna be because they decided to spend $350k to purchase green space (the Borough itself has a $2 MILLION dollar pot of cash to use at their disposal). Further.. look at the units coming on Board in the next year/year and half... 300 E State St... West End Walk... West End Flats... we're not running out of money anytime soon. Nice we were able to preserve a little bit both here and on Manchester Ave.

Sry you didn't get to build us some ugly houses on that plot, Vince. Maybe you can next time.

  6. Interesting logic, so the west end developments, hundreds of units, is a good thing because they bring ratables and the boro is flush with cash. However 3 "ugly" homes on 5th street would be bad.

I would hope there is some accountability to the tax payers for the "$2 million dollar pot of cash to use at their disposal".

    1. Sigh.... its exhausting arguing this because you'll never see why it was a good thing because you lost out on being able to pocket some quick cash by building us 3 houses.

West End Flats & Walk didn't need to become park land because there already is a huge park in the SW quadrant of the Boro -- Glen Providence. The Southern part of the Boro has Houtman Park, the SE quadrant has the Barrall Field complex, and now the new pocket park on Manchester Ave .. so 300 E State was allowed to develop because at one point there were houses there (you can even see the steps that used to lead to the front doors on street view). NW Corner of the Borough has Cherry St park and you could argue they should have an option within the Borough limits (but nothing has come up for sale that Council could preserve); far North has Ray Roche Park.

So really, the only part that was park land limited was the NW corner... which was actually mentioned at the meeting on acquiring it!!

    2. The Boro should buy Broomalls and make it a public water park.

    3. Anonymous, please let me know where this $2,000,000 pile of cash is, when I look at the budget online I can’t find it. I do see that we have debt service budget at $438,000 for FY 2017. It would seem a little crazy to think we are paying that much for debt service if we had such a large reserve.

    4. Think we need to call in some Deloitte auditors to dig deport into the 2 million
Cash reserve does Oakmont townhomes have a underground bunker / safe we don't know about ?

  7. Does media think we're the city of Philadelphia that was built around parks or squares ! It might be nice but it will be too expensive if the borough has 2 million at their disposal they should hire their own P.E.as an employee
It would cost less and the borough and residents wouldn't get screwed with shoddy inspections - olive street garage brleing the example- hundreds of thousands were spent
And it has sections that have concrete collapsing ?
