Poor Choice for Ribbon Cutting

It required 24 meetings over six years to bring this Wawa to Media.  It's been shown that a lot of the delay was due to lack of understanding and decisiveness by Media Borough elected officials.    As a matter of fact, the whole deal was dead at one point and Wawa walked away, which prompted my response.

Unfortanutely, the person who did the least for this cause has been chosen to cut the ribbon for the store opening.

  1. I've been wondering why there is no goose on the State Street side of the building. Never saw a Wawa logo without the goose.

    1. This new Wawa is squarely within the borough of media but is this going to be the first Fair Trade Wawa ?

  2. The mayor will probably show up at the Monroe Street Wawa thinking the grand opening is there.

  3. In correct the mayor knows how to follow the money- he's still good at that at the expense of everything else

  4. I guess the author would have preferred the original proposal by Wawa that was described along with a photograph in an entry on this blog dated June 20, 2012 titled “Wawa distributes brochure in support of proposed new store”. Have a look at it by searching “Wawa” on this blog’s search box.You can see what Media would have gotten had the deal been approved more quickly - a small, strip mall-like structure at one of Media’a most prominent gateways. SAD! Instead local officials didn’t roll over. They negotiated firmly and we citizens of Media have a much better outcome - a larger more architecturally beautiful building, a better design for the gas pump canopy, a seating area on State Street, and more attractive landscaping and sidewalks. While I still have concerns about the traffic impact of this development at least it looks a hell of lot better than it might have been.

    1. Good call... Tedmano wants to pretend that the Council should've just rolled over to big business since what was previously there (the Media Inn) was so awful, which is true. Fact is... it could have looked like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--0l6gf_icBo/UBEngaGwSgI/AAAAAAAAFkU/Rax5sgNH6dI/s1600/SEATING-AREA.jpg

But Council held firm... and now we have the most beautiful WAWA I've ever seen. Not for nothing but it really is the gateway Media deserves.

This is how it looks today:

    2. Six year wait for a 2nd Story? That long? Makes no sense. It's the same ineptness applied to the bridge on third street. Are they holding out for chrome guard rails?

    3. Prominent gateway do you mean the stately masonry pillars across the street that says bowling green
Another example of thinking media is much more then it is- please note the Raven directly across the street
      From the new Wawa

    4. Ok we understand the game Bob Linn has to extract money out of media borough and wawa - one thing is clear you can't trust media borough they don't negociate in good faith

  5. Maybe the mayor can hire a film crew for $20,000 to put a video of tomorrow's event on Youtube. BAAAAAHWWAAHAHAHA

  6. Pssst! After six years of the nonsense we went through, Wawa wants this to be a quiet event. They didn't want to put it on their "Store Opening" page. https://www.wawa.com/about/locations/store-grand-openings

  7. HAHAHAAH Proves my point! Why would I have posted the link if it was LISTED? It wasn't last night. It was posted this morning. So why wasn't it posted in advance?

Wawa must read this blog. Hey, Wawa, love the 100% Columbian Coffee!

  8. Six years to get a 2nd story? Is that suppose to be some kind of joke? That can only mean it'll take another 20 years to get bridge fixed on 3rd st.

    1. Properties values on west street and parks edge will drop a few
Percent when the 2 lane bridge / dam/ road way opens up the question remains how many former and current council members live near this site ? Rumsey, Johnson, et al ?

    3. This is why the feet dragging feet continues they have made it too personal
Think of all the time and money wasted on legal challenges to having a two lane roadway that money could have brought a lot of enviromental benefits to the immediate area another NIMBY example and lack of boroughs officials
Leadership for the benefit of all residents by the time the roadway stars
Most of the people will have moved
