If one is to believe the most recent update on Septa's website regarding the restoration of the Media/Elwyn line out to Wawa, the scheduled construction should begin in the coming months. On their site, they list construction commencing during the Spring of 2017, with a completion sometime in 2020.
If you're not familiar with this 3-mile segment, a lot of retention walls, stone ballast, catenary poles and electrical upgrades have been completed in the last 5 years. As for the Wawa station itself, not much has been done or shared regarding what they will look like and when it will be constructed.
This would seem to be a VERY worthwhile investment. Hopefully the Chester Creek rails to trails can also be extended along the way while they are at it.
ReplyDeleteIs this a completely new entry on the website, or is this a statement that has been sitting out there for a long time and they have just pushed the dates around? I am hoping it is new - that would make it more meaningful.
ReplyDeleteRegional rail from Elwyn is already so slow - You can get to center city 10 minutes faster by driving to Lincoln Financial Field and taking the Broad Street Subway line to City Hall.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they automate the trains soon so that instead of 1x 10 car train stopping at every stop, it can be 10x 1 car trains that go to individual stops and express in.
Why do people back in Pa.( where I was born and raised, put up with this stuff? 15-20 years to restore 3 miles of track? I understand it cost 150 million dollars? Heads need to roll at Speta, this is a disgrace. With that type of money service should have been restored to West Chester. Someone needs to light a fire.
ReplyDelete15-20 years to restore service on a existing rail line? $ 150 millions dollars to do so? Why do people in the greater Phila. area put up with this stuff? This needs to change if the area is going to compete with the rest of the country in the future.
