You may have the same questions too about the recent crime in Media and what is being done about it.

Shootout at 6th and Jackson Streets last weekend.

I got A LOT of calls and texts over the weekend wanting to know more about what happened with Saturday's shootout on 6th and Jackson Streets.  Despite living on 6th Street, I didn't know much about it, as I was out of town.  That's also why I didn't cover the story in what some felt was an untimely manner.

What I did gather, is that there are a lot of people who want answers of what's being done to address the crime and "Crime Culture" that was mentioned by Mayor McMahon a few months back.  Oddly enough, It was just last week that I showed how complaints to the Media Police Department are on the rise and that a crime strategy needs to be explained.

The text I received below pretty much sums up what's on people's minds.

"R we at the point where borough council NEEDS to address the safety of its residents? are more police officers going to be hired in light of the hundreds of new residents moving into the borough from new construction, etc...? What actions r going to be taken by a borough that doesn't even hold a national night out with it's police dept? Are we even safe to walk around town at night?"

As for the shooting that occurred, you may never hear anything about that again in terms of a motive, outcome and/or conviction/s.   Unless the press actively chases the story, that information is rarely openly shared by Media borough.

  1. Tedman, can you share the source on the monthly complaints numbers. Thanks.

    1. Here's the link of the compiled data I gathered by watching each and every council meeting on Youtube. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cKbDtPSNXVgtA-bteNfubS1W10BYRvk0OAs8_Q5fqrQ/edit?usp=sharing

When I get some time this week, I'll include a link, within the Google spreadsheet, to each council meeting queued up to the safety report, so you won't have to search yourself for verification.

  2. How is this possible? With all the "Hate has no home here" lawn signs?

  3. How is this possible? Media hosted the tshirt graveyard for shooting victims.

  4. I am sure that you're not going to share this as you never share my comments but I have created a spreadsheet with the complaint data taken from the borough council minutes dating back to 2011. As you can see from these charts complaints are slightly higher in the summer and although we've had a slight bump in the last two months complaints we are right around where we have been which is lower than 2011 levels, on average. Also these are complaints that the police investigated, not necessarily crimes committed. A complaint doesn't necessarily represent a crime. 1. Anonymous (4:34pm), or sould I call you Jennifer Pohlhaus?

What's the breakdown of those "complaints" you list? Do you know how many and what increase are related to Part 1 offenses? If you don't it's pretty much a moot point as you can't deduct from the complaints whether it's a dog barking complaint vs. a burglary.

We are NOT " ..right around where we have been which is lower than 2011 levels, on average" because again, you don't have the information on Part 1 offenses. The most important information. I do, however, conceded we may very well be at the same levels of dog barking complaints we were at in 2011.

It's been admitted by Mayor Bob McMahon Part 1 offenses are and have increased over the last 5 years. He even calls it "Crime Culture." Here ya go as said by Mayor Bob McMahon during the March 2017 Council Meeting, "Part 1 offenses and how they've increased over the last five years and these include burglaries...it's a whole different world out there..." You can watch it here. https://youtu.be/TYkorGYbi-g?t=5m33s

Kudos the Media Police Department for keeping this community safe. It's far beyond a reasonable doubt further resources are needed to help the department. Let's hope that now happens instead of part time gardeners getting $25 per hour instead.

And lastly, unlike everyone on borough council other than Paul Robinson, I hope you have a "We Support our Police, Fire and EMS" on your lawn; drive down E. 6th Street, you'll see mine.

    2. It's frustrating that you didn't bother to approve my reply to you from the other day and that you generally censor the comments on this site to make those who disagree with you look like police hating, horrible people. I appreciate our police and what they do to keep our community safe and I appreciate your reporting on the community as a whole. What I don't appreciate is the fear mongering and hate that you sometimes try to sew by presenting things a in a misleading way. If you have additional information as to what the "complaints are" then share that and your source with others so we can be informed. I agree that if a particular type of complaint is on the rise then we should know that and/or the mayor should report additional information beyond simply complaints as it's misleading.

  5. How is this possible? It must be the fault of the police. Whoever fired the weapon is the innocent victim here.

  6. How is this possible? Media's a Fair Trade town. Coffee roasting deal gone bad?

  7. How is this possible? Let the police pull back like they did in many cities across America (Chicago, Detroit, Wilmington, Chester), and then lets see where things go. The "Hate has no home here" liberals have no idea until their streets get shot up like they did last weekend. As I often hear, the Sig Sauer and Glock are the new 911.

  8. Prior to buying the land for pocket park did the borough of media provide any feedback to the public concerning Megan's Law and
The surrounding area speaking the community safe ?

  9. Wow, calling out somebody by name when they posted as anonymous. Tedman, isn't that an abuse of "power"?

    1. P. Null I believe TEDMAN was being TRANSPARENT about who placed the post.(it is the same post on All Things Media Facebook with that name) Isn't that the Liberal Obama way....most transparent administration ever....at least that was the slogan...not so much the reality.

    2. curious you bring politics into it...should it not be up to the individual to determine if they want their name on here? or is it the moderator's choice to do so? perhaps it is merely coincidence that the "transperancy" happened when someone has challenged his viewpoint?

    3. P Null you nailed it. Redman took a page out of the DNC and OBAMA'S playbook. Name names and discredit.
Democrats have been doing it the last 8 years. Fast and Furious/Deleted Emails/Airplane Meetings/ect. Remember when people go Low Redman goes HIGH

  11. I'm just outside of Media. We're getting hit by organized crime rings running buses out of Philly and burglarizing nicer quiet suburban neighborhoods. It's a pattern emerging from the last 5 years or so. It's very difficult for the cops to handle because it requires a lot of interdepartmental coordination.

Put up security cameras and motion detectors. Take necessary steps to protect your families.

  12. Still looking for answers. How many of the complaints are not barking dogs. You can't slam someone for something you don't know yourself.
