Hampton Inn to be discussed in Media
Planning Commission Meeting Feb 2, 7:30 at borough hall
MEDIA — The Hampton Inn project is on tonight’s agenda of the borough’s planning commission. After a long hiatus during which the project was in litigation, the plan will be viewed with the clock starting in the land development phase.
The four-story Hampton Inn and Suites at Beatty and Providence roads received several approvals from the Zoning Hearing Board, including adding a fourth floor where three were permitted with consideration that the building met height restrictions.
Several neighbors on adjacent streets continued to object to the plan, which sent it to the courts. With those cases settled, as well as Nether Providence resolving issues for a sliver of the property in its municipality, the plan starts anew. It is unclear what, if any, changes have been made to the original plan for the approximately 116-room facility.
While there were objections to the size of the building and potential traffic it would generate, many in the business community spoke in favor of the project on the basis of the borough’s economic vitality. All interested parties will ultimately have the opportunity for comment as the planning commission moves forward with the application.
