Hollywood's Henry Winkler is coming to Media next Thursday night to speak at Benchmark on what it's like to be a student with dyslexia -- something the kids and parents at Benchmark know all too well. As part of a free community lecture series, Henry will appear at our school, on Providence Road, where we have been educating struggling yet bright readers since 1970! That in itself is worthy of a story.
Please see our Media Alert below. A reporter and/or photograher are welcome - just let us know so we can save them a seat!

Benchmark School Invites Community
To Celebrate Its 40th Anniversary With A Free Lecture
A CONVERSATION WITH HENRY WINKLER
WHAT: For children with difficulties learning to read, school can be a trying environment, as Hollywood’s Henry Winkler discovered as a boy in New York City attending PS 87. Years later, actor/producer/director Henry Winkler began a series of children’s novels entitled Hank Zipzer: The World’s Most Amazing Under-Achiever. The books were inspired by Winkler’s own struggles with dyslexia. Winkler will share his inspiring story about overcoming adversity in this free lecture at Benchmark – a school dedicated to educating bright, struggling readers in grades 1–8 since 1970.
WHEN: Thursday evening, April 15, at 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Benchmark • A. Palmer West Performing Arts Center • 2107 N. Providence Rd • Media • 610-565-3741
WHY: Winkler’s message about overcoming adversity has inspired audiences wherever he speaks. As the kickoff lecturer for The West Family 40th Anniversary Speaker Series at Benchmark, the School aims to encourage community interest in the School’s critically acclaimed academic program and state of the art facilities.
Benchmark, located on a wooded campus along Providence Road in Media, PA, is an independent, not-for-profit school. Winkler is the first of three free community lectures celebrating Benchmark’s past and introduces the school and its mission to a new generation of families in the tri-state region. Students travel daily from NJ, DE & Philadelphia’s surrounding counties to attend its elementary and middle school.
HENRY: Winkler is known internationally as a successful TV, stage and movie actor, winning two Golden Globes and three Emmy nominations. He also has been honored with a “star” on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After three decades in Hollywood, he teamed up with co-author Lin Oliver to write the critically acclaimed children’s series, Hank Zipzer, which follows the everyday adventures of a bright boy with learning challenges.
