This Thursday, July 11th will be Media Fire Company Night at Rita's Water Ice.
Media has a great history of people who have servered their community. Since 1891 the Media Fire Department has been a volunteer company. If you have the time to volunteer or know someone who'd like to, please check out their site that has a listing of what the positions entail, associated training and FAQs.

There may come a day soon when volunteer companies will be forced to charge a fee for house or busines protection. I know they now solicit contributions. Remember that incident I believe it was out west when the fire company stood by and watched a house burn down because the owners had failed to pay their fee?
ReplyDeleteIf that happened here, the Borough would be sued. Under State law, providing fire service is the responsibility of the municipality.
DeleteYour bigger concern should be the end of volunteer firefighting as we know it. With the responsibility to provide firefighting service falling squarely on the Borough, we could be facing an unprecedented tax increase when the current generation of volunteers moves on through attrition.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to offer health insurance benefits to encourage participation?
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good idea, worth exploring. 1. Is it legal; 2. Is it taxable; and, 3. How to pay for it?
DeleteTedman probably has the answer to this problem.
ReplyDeleteIf Media Borough leadership valued the volunteer fire force AT ALL they would have done more than just dismiss the expertise of first responders (both Media AND Rose Tree!) when they explained why Third Street should be opened for 2 way traffic.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't hide behind "but the borough SAID emergency vehicles would be accommodated" - god help any hazmat situations where multiple alarms are needed. 3rd and West sts would just fry away............hmmm, thinking now might that be such a bad thing knowing who those neighbors (I mean NIMBYS) are?
Kind of a dumb argument when they said that it would be open both ways for emergency vehicles, isn't it?
DeleteHave to agree with anon 3:16 you are dumb. Emergency vehicles would have complete access. However, don't let that get in the way of your lame agenda.
Delete17 years is proof enough for me that a bridge is unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, a bridge isn't "necessary", but certainly might be desirable. A DAM, on the other hand, is both unnecessary AND undesirable!
DeleteStopped to see our volunteer firefighters tonight. Nice people. Average citizens like you and me, with incredible bravery. While the rest of us are running out the door, they're running in to put out the fire and make sure everyone got out safely. And they do it for free.
