Media in Two Minutes

MEDIA IN TWO MINUTES!

Media Retail Takes Another Hit
It wasn't on the scene that long, but another retail store on State Street will be closing at the end of August.  This store is located on the Western side of town.

Media's Last Used Car Dealership Disappears!
I never saw a salesman out front, nor did I see any activity inside, but it looks like Media's last used car dealership located on the westside of Baltimore Avenue has called it quits.  I don't know if they left in the middle of the night, but they sure left in a hurry. Especially with all the car inventory, boats and other vehicles they had to remove from the location.

Fellini's Restaurant Expands
If you like Fellini's restaurant, get ready to like more of it.  This business is making plans to expand into the adjacent building being vacated by the Salad Stop.  The added room will be a welcomed addition to an already popular and often crowded eatery.

Another Brewpub in Media?
Iron Hill Restaurant has dominated the Brewpub concept here in Media for years, though that may be changing.  It's been known to some for awhile now that the owner of Diego's, Picasso's and Le Bella Epoque, Loic Barnieu has been interested in bringing a brewpub to Media.  In fact, there have been negotiations going on to do just that over the former Van Wyk Oldsmobile property.

I have to say, it's a neat location with plenty of parking and a unique store front.  Having been vacant for years, it may make for a nice addition to the town.  As for the what the restaurant will entail, think of a format similar to Victory Brewpub out in Downingtown, PA.

Patch.com
Media Patch.com is typically reporting news, but this week their parent company AOL was the news.  Looks like the hyperlocal concept has fallen on some tough times.  I like Media Patch and hope the stick around.

Robertson's Barber Shop
I always try to share feedback I get when I hear it on State Street.  What I'm hearing lately is that people really like the haircut they get from Robertson's Barber Shop.  When someone takes the time to tell you something like that, you know they hold the service in high regard.

Also, here's a cool clock that they put out front on N. Olive Street.

    1. Sassy girl...the big clue being the fact that the business facebook page, which was the only site for the operation, was deleted a couple weeks ago. Supposedly she is going virtual and I presume starting over with a whole new client base.

  2. The old Dairy Queen used to be where the car dealer was. We lost the one out on RT3 to of all things another bank . Why not bring back the 'Queen to kids of this era. Kids from Media High and Penncrest used to hang out there. Make it into a place to meet friends and have a good time.

  3. Is the store that is closing, Sassy Girl? If so, I am not surprised. The owner has an attitude that you can feel as soon as you walk in the door. It showed up on Media Patch when she commented on an article that was done on her store and on her store's Facebook page as well and now that I check, the Facebook page has been deleted. Good thing since it wasn't going to win her any customers. Not a good fit with the friendly business owners of Media.

    3. I think we owe this business a little sympathy. She was given a very cold welcome from the Council and there are other business owners in town who exhibit the same behavior but who don't have such a bad rep: Rude attitude, I'm looking at YOU Tancreed's. Unfriendly Facebook posts: Sorella Boutique.

It's too bad this business didn't work out because the West End of town could use the foot traffic.

    4. Maybe we could have arm wrestling at boro council meetings. The winner gets his/her way. Betting lines could be listed on the public service channel. MBA disburses the winnings.

    6. how many consignment stores can 1 street support? we already had 3 on state street, 4 if you count the one on baltimore pike.
the owner of sassy girl followed me like i was going to steal one of her second hand schmattas. that never happened to me at tancreeds where they have always been polite to me. also,
i never saw sorella make unfriendly fb posts but i will take your word for it. but the owner couldnt be nicer.

    7. Wow, everyone is so judgemental....

    8. sorella is also involved with a lot of local charities and definitely adds a lot to the community. i'd like to know what you mean by their unfriendly fb post. i get their fb posts and i have never seen anything rude.

    9. It is SG...the store fixtures and lease assumption have been advertised on CG for weeks... and if the rest of the rumors about the owner's dealings are true...good riddance.

    10. Her dealings are true. Her Facebook posts were the worst. She shamed customers for the clothing they were bringing in to consign, made harsh rules that talked down to customers etc. When a couple people replied to her posts that perhaps the way she stated things wasn't the best, she had scathing replies to them and then deleted the entire starting post. It was chaos and she most certainly does not have my sympathy.

    11. She is also a predator with delusions of adequacy, whose only true "passion" is squandering other people's resources in the pursuit of her silly pipe dreams. I feel sorry for her next "partner"/victim because when he has nothing left but the shirt on his back, she'll take that too and then probably sue him for failing to make her dreams come true.

    12. During the 2012 Prom Shopping Season Sorella apparently received commentary from one concerned mother that the shop was carrying too many dresses that were immodest or too sexy for high-school girls. The owner went ahead and took her indignation to Facebook. You can still see the post on their wall.

I guess between Sorella and Sassy Girl, the lesson is that people don't like you any better, and are certainly less likely to patronize you, if you take your "beef" to social networking. It just doesn't look good for a business to bash customers.

    13. As I read all these comments about Sassy Girl I am saddened....any of you ever ventured out to start a business from scratch? I should say had the guts to start a business from scratch.... some of you may have ....and Media isn't as friendly as all of you portray. It's govened by a bunch of stuff shirts more interested in there own agendas...Don't get me wrong.... there are plenty of nice businesses and people in the Borough but it is very clickish... I find it funny that people will comment on a business closing without really knowing the facts....and to the person that refered to the SassyGirl facebook page... funny how you were discontented with the store and its owner but continued to monitor her page.... shame on all of you that bash a struggling business....go back to you salaries and time cards and pray you never have to hang a shingle in a small town. Only then will you know what it is to EARN a dollar....

    14. Thank you to our customers for alerting us to the anonymous blog post of August 20 3:29 pm. The above poster gave an opinion without being presented all of the facts. The "customer" was not a customer at all...she was a woman who came into the store dressed like Michelle Duggar of "Nineteen Kids and Counting", long denim skirt, long waist length hair, long shapeless shirt (I don't care what she looks like I am just setting the stage for what happened). She came in to the gown lounge and proceeded to loudly say that "any girl who wears a strapless dress or thin straps is asking for it and full of the devil". It seems her express purpose was to proselytize to the packed room of young girls trying on gowns and their mothers. She made the girls very uncomfortable and the mothers furious. She was led out of the store. The incident had nothing to do with "a concerned mother expressing an opinion that we carried too sexy dress". Nothing could be further from the truth...just check out the testimonials from the mothers on our website www.sorellashop.com. We have been named Best Prom Boutique by Philadelphia Magazine and Best Prom Dresses by Main Line Today Magazine. So that post was due to an extraordinary incident that occured at our store Sorella-sometimes if you don't let off a little steam in those unfortunate types of circumstances, you will explode. It was just plain mean. So that's what happened.

    15. FYI...the owner of Sassy Girl has posted on FB that she has just signed a new lease somewhere yet to be disclosed in Delco and will be reopening in the new place in November. Maybe the 3rd times a charm...or maybe like mildew, you get rid of it and then before you know it, it's back.

  4. Ritas, Mangos, the new place on State St, O'malley's, Front Street Fountain... how many more ice cream type places are really needed in Media?

  9. Anon 3:42 agree it would be a great location. The west end of town needs more traffic (foot or auto).

  11. Sinfully Delicious on Monroe sells ice cream too. I dislike the idea of a brew pub in Media because a) we already have one and b) is alcohol the only thing Media can offer these days? I'd like to see a bread baker in town.

    1. Take a look at revenues for bakeries vs. brewpubs and let us know which is the more successful business model.

  18. How about a bookstore or a BBQ joint/brew pub? Or both. This town needs both.

  19. How about an Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar tasting room? Too gimmicky? These seem to be doing well in West Chester and Chestnut Hill.

Or a wine shop... Are those legal in PA? There used to be a Chaddsford Winery tasting room at the Springfield Mall.
