Media in Two Minutes

I'm working on quite a big announcement for Media here shortly that's taking up a lot of my time, but I just couldn't push Media in Two Minutes aside for that effort.  Okay, this will be on the short side, but bear with me.

Media Food Bank Needs HELP!
If you didn't see my piece earlier, please take a look.  Media's Food Bank is in dire need of supplies (Canned goods, etc.).  Please consider a donation to this group.

Super Sunday
Today is Super Sunday on State Street, or what the locals like to call Super Sock Sunday.  Maybe it's just me, but this event just doesn't seem to have the appeal it once did.  Perhaps it's time for something different.

Trader Joe's Shopping Cards
Sat there two weeks!
If you saw a guy all dressed up walking down State Street pushing Trader Joe shopping carts, that was me.  Yes, after two weeks of a shopping cart sitting at the corner of State and Veteran's Square, I couldn't take it anymore.  I also picked up the other cart that was turned over next to a mailbox by the courthouse.  This is the thing: it's not okay to leave your shopping carts just anywhere in Media.  It's kind of like cigarette buts, if one person sees them on the ground, they are more likely to throw one of theirs there too.

Upon return, I spoke to the manager at Trader Joe's who told me he had no idea this was a problem. I asked what the policy was for taking carts off the property, which I was told they are not suppose too leave the area, but it happens.  Anyway, the manager agreed that if they are found around town, they will send someone out to pick them up.  If you see any, call Trader Joe's at: 610-891-2752 and ask for Dave.

Media Hotel - Make an Offer
Make an Offer
Anyone who wants to try their hand at the hotel/development business, let me know.  You may have an opportunity before you to do just that here in Media.  What was hailed as a much need hotel for the borough, is essentially back to square one.

Interesting Media History I Didn't Know
1985 killing spree shooter, Sylvia Seegrist lived in Media.  Apparently she had an apartment back then on top of Media Hardware (now Quincy's).  I never new that.

Town Doesn't Want To Pay for Parking on Saturdays
Truthfully, I didn't think it was a bad idea to enforce paid parking on Saturday's, boy was I wrong.  A lot of you came out and expressed your concerns over why this is such a bad idea.  Thanks for the feed back, I get it.

I recommend people contact Borough Hall to further voice their concerns over this.

Too Many Bars and Restaurants in Media?

Recently I've started to hear complaints from residents that there are too many bar and restaurants in town.  To my surprise, I've also heard this from at least one bar/restaurant owner.  There is no doubt a saturation point when it comes to this, but have we reached this threshold?

Radnor Hunt Concourse
A special thanks for the invite to the Radnor Hunt Concourse Event  - 100 Motor Cars of Radnor Hunt.  It was an awesome day and the display of cars was one of the best I've ever seen.

Iconic Porsche 959 (Doesn't run and NA Porsche won't/can't fix it)

  1. i thought we had too many bars and restaurants back when spazzo's bid for their property was selected over a bid that was not for a restaurant

  2. TM, it might be better if folks contact their elected officials with concerns related to the parking legislation and regulations. Why tie up staff time?

  3. Super Sunday is an outrage. It is a political event for the Media Dems. Tedman you need to be there tooting your own horn. Forget gay marriage this should be your issue.

    1. Super Sunday is an event put on by Towntalk! Why waste your time blogging if you don't know what you're talking about!

  4. The only thing that should determine the number of bars and restaurants in Media is the market. Good establishments will succeed and lesser ones will fail. As long as they all draw folks to town, generate revenue, and pay taxes, without causing a public nuisance, (which to the best of my knowledge, none do) then the conversation doesn't need to happen.

  5. Are you kidding me, Media? There are not enough bars and restaurants in this area. I honestly think we need more. As a resident and employee in Media, I'm so tired of the same old thing and often find myself driving to Springfield or fruther to try something different. Wouldn't you rather keep the money IN the town instead of encouraging people to go out of it? With Philly so close rather than being close-minded, residents should embrace it. Many restaurants and bars have limited hours making it hard for variety. If there's a business owner concerned that there's too many restaurants they are clearly insecure with the product they're offering/ on the downward slope.

    1. I happen to like the variety, but I'm curious as to what type of restaurants you'd like to see added to the roster in town?

    2. You drive to Springfield for their restaurants? Say no more.

    3. For pizza Springfield got Media beat. Slack's Hoagie Shack sells fantastic pizza. Don't let the corporate sounding name fool you. Their authentic square pizza is the same style as Pica's or Santucci's. They bring it.

    4. I'd take Pinocchio's over Pica's any day of the week and twice on Sunday............as my football watching gang often does. I definitely don't need to leave Media for Pizza.

  6. I'd like to see more restaurants but with better menus! Another beer and burger place? No thank you. I have to leave town every weekend to find good food.

  7. I would like to see some good barbeque with live bands.

  8. How about a good, pure seafood restaurant? That is a tough one to make work, but it would be an incredible addition to town.

  9. How about a place to get a good hotdog and beer?
    That would be most excellent

    1. Go to My Three Sons down the end of State St - every kind of microbrew you can imagine! And the guy is pretty nice, I like to patronize him.

    2. Sure, if you like to spend $10 for a mediocre dog and a soda. And if that is all the micro's you can imagine, you have a limited imagination. Pinocchio's might hurt your brain.

  10. I'd like to see Korean, BBQ (with regular blues music a huge bonus), and Ethiopian (probably too offbeat for Media but I can dream), and a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. Please, no more pizza, gourmet burgers, fancy sandwiches and fried food.

  11. Toal Brothers new owner of Granite Run Mall? So I've been told.

  12. The bars and restaurants in Media are excellent! It's the only reason why people who aren't from Media come here. If anything State Street needs to be expanded and marketed better so that we can continue to meet the demand of both younger and older generations. Media is a great town that is extremely walkable and has easy access from other Delaware County areas. It is also the mid point between West Chester and Philadelphia. We must keep the bars and restaurants alive, and continue with expansion efforts. A hotel would have been the best thing for this town especially one within walking distance of State Street. As someone who is in the hotel industry I know there are plenty of accounts in the area that would utilize the hotel not to mention wedding blocks and leisure travelers.
