I, however, do know that word got back to the company about the notifications shared on this blog. I have no idea what affect that had, but Commerce Energy's parent company, Just Energy out of Houston was very interested in the matter here in Media.
Either way, here are the energy companies allowed to canvass this month.
Last night I received a message from a resident who encountered a door-to-door salesman asking for their PECO bill. Not surprising, this is a typical complaint received by this type door-to-door sales.
Lastly, why is okay for these marketers to come to our houses and not Mayor McMahon's. Where he lives theres a sign that says, No Soliciting.
Oakmont Place where Mayor McMahon Lives |
Why can't mayor McMahon get these companies to setup a booth at Media Five Miler and let Media Residemts come to their booth where they would have to pay the Borough for the privlege of setting up a booth having door to door solicitors just isn't safe are these people uniformed ? Should we call 911 if they won't leave or keep coming back to solicit ?
ReplyDeleteOr here is an idea no thank you and don't open the door why is that so hard to figure out
DeleteYour missing the point you have people coming onto your property while you might not be home which brings up the question who screens these people for this job - I dought these people go through the same screening as say a ups driver or fedex driver do they go through any screening process at all ?
Deletewhat is the screening process for a random person walking down the street who decides to come onto your property and ring your doorbell? Is that a BC problem too?
DeleteThe random person isn't being sanctioned by a borough the point is if these people are coming onto your property citizens of media should be reassured that the employees of these companies are screened in a formal manner the random person isn't being permitted to solicit you at your door by Media Borough
DeleteYes, if you feel the need, call the Media Police via 911.
ReplyDeleteHere's what one Media resident messaged last night:
The guy tried to imply I had missed some peco notice so my status had returned to default. I knew it was BS when he asked to "come inside or see a peco bill", the language they use is definitely deceptive.
Not related to this story, but want you to know something about an up coming event. I late 2013 you posted a nice article about Delco singer/songwriter Jeff Campbell and his recent success and appearance on Jimmy Kimmell Live. Well, Jeff is back with a show at Rose Tree Park on July 22nd, along w/ invited friends Megan Slankard and Matt Szlachetka. The 3 of these folks are wonderful together w/harmonies and original music and some all time favorites. Jeff is traveling across the country doing shows from west toward the east.visit his Facebook and his website at jeffcampbellmusic.com.
ReplyDeleteGiven the known deceptive tactics is it to much to ask that these "solicitors " where some kind of uniform rather then a 3"x5" laminated card around their neck that seine could make from supplies from Deals office supply !! ??
ReplyDeleteTwo young men knocked on my door on 6th street on Tuesday. They stated that we had not responded to a previous contact. When I pointed to the "No Solicitation" sign on my door, one of the young men just smiled. These two were dressed in dark suits and ties. I thought they were Jehova's Witnesses.
ReplyDeleteThe risk simply outweighs the reward here
ReplyDeleteBesides the solicitation permit fee that Media Borough collected are connections that can be made to Solar City I know the former VP of Finance for Solar City lives in Middletown and has connections within Media Borough Council
Good thing the mayor lives in a HOA community otherwise their would be solar panels and free landscaping done at his Media Oakmont Place Residence
ReplyDeleteDo these companies employees or contractors that are canvassing the borough criminally background checked and drug tested- if so can those records be produced and be faxed to the borough offices ?
ReplyDeleteTheir is some real liability here the boroughof Media is needlessly taking on !
Hush all of you ungrateful pedestrians ------ you should be happy Media is looking out for your best interest. How horrible of you tax paying peasants to question the manner in which Council decides to provide for you. And if it is true someone on Council is being swayed by a personal friendship with a Solar City employee from Middletown how is that different from hiring a "part time gardener" friends in high places make the wheel go round, silly.
ReplyDeleteWhen I get a knock at door I'm going to encourage them to visit the Mayors residence along with his neighbors
