It won't be hot enough to fry an egg, we tried that, but it'll be plenty hot this weekend.

It won't be hot enough to fry an egg, we tried that, but it'll be plenty hot this weekend.  5 years ago to the day we had temperatures here in Media that reached 107 degrees.  I don't remember it being that hot since, but the heat back then did make everyone crazy enough to take a look at the "solar special" hosted by the Plumstead Inn.  Yeah, I admit, I thought it would at least fry an egg.

Though a typical hot Summer day in July remains the same, things in Media sure haven't.  With the closing of the Plumstead this year, I'll doubt we'll ever see another "solar special".  The community spirit and small town fun these types of places provided seems to have been lost on the ongoing quest of urbanization.

  1. Ted, let's not be so negative eh? Brick and Brew did nothing wrong here, they bought a liquor license in a free market that wanted to sell, put money back into the building, and now will be adding sales tax, business tax, and property tax dollars back onto the doll. I'm struggling to see how this is a bad thing. As a conservative, you should at least see some value in this

  2. Has the heat gotten to you already? Where exactly is the slight towards Brick and Brew? The fact that it's not the Plumstead any more?

As you mention, you're struggling to see why his is a bad thing, because you're over-reacting. As a matter of fact, over the last two weeks I've been helping them with the excitement:

You seem to think by saying "Save the Whales", must logically mean, "kill the dolphins."

  3. I'm just saying, you're lamenting the loss of the Plumstead, and you wrote, "I'll doubt we'll ever see another "solar special". The community spirit and small town fun these types of places provided seems to have been lost"... how do you know we won't get that in the new Brick and Brew?

I do reread your post not as a knock against Brick and Brew, but rather lamenting the loss of these small-time local bars, and that's true.. but its not like the Plum was forced to close or that Brick and Brew won't be all those things to residents here in Media

  4. It's obvious you have some kind vested interest in the Media Brick N Brew. I get it, and admire your passion and intrigue, but please let me know when you do a "Solar Special" and/or when I can post my Christmas Card on the wall like we did with those "community spirited" places we loved.

I'll be happy to do a write-up. Good luck with the business. Nice Job! it looks stellar!

  5. No vested interest, just excited for them to be here. As it is now, that spot on State Street is bridges the gaps between the West end bars and the East end bars. I also just saw on their FB they have a drink named for the Ol' Plummy.. so hopefully they keep the Plum as inspiration going forward.

Further, you got any info on what's coming to replace Dignazio's?
