  2. Can't they be housed somewhere out there amongst the deplorables instead?

    1. This comment isn't appreciated just because it's Swarthmore and people are typically liberal minded and vote democrat - cancer knows no political boundaries

  3. I'm having a difficult time relating to the current resident's concerns. These potential users of this house are not people going to live in a 'half-way' house, ex-cons being housed coming out of prison, vagrants or homeless people- these are people like them- unfortunate to have a cancer diagnosis bad enough to need to access our premium, top of the line Philadelphia Medical Centers with state of the art therapies to offer them. They are here with their families and caregivers- needing a place to stay to lessen the financial impact of their medical bills. Where is the Heart of Swarthmore here? These neighbors should be acting more 'neighborly' and offering them help and meals instead of complaining about their parking and the 'character of their neighborhood'. In my humble opinion- THEY are the ones dragging down the 'character of their neighborhood' by being so self-centered. And- 'YES', I'd have no problem with a house like that being next door to me. It would give me an opportunity to do an 'act of kindness' a day for someone in a less fortunate place than me....

  4. How sad. There are a few vacant houses in Media that could be re-purposed for these folks if they're getting the cold shoulder elsewhere.

    1. I don't think transient people with zero ownership in the house make good neighbors. Low paid and unlicensed caregivers often have a ton of baggage, including relatives who don't mind doing time. I've personally supervised large LTC facilities and speak from experience.

    2. My understanding is that the "caregivers" in question are often family members and people with personal relationships with the cancer patients. They are not necessarily paid nursing aides. This is not an LTC facility, if you read the article.
