Bricklayer Union not happy with CVS construction in Media, PA.

New CVS being built in Media, PA

Philadelphia Bricklayers Union (Local 1) not happy with work being done a the new CVS store on Baltimore Ave with what they site is labor from Texas.  The union goes on to question Delaware County and the Media Borough Republicans regarding their commitments to local labor, but they don't have much of anything to do with it.  There are no Republicans on Media Borough Council.

However, it does raise a good point.  With the massive amounts of construction going on in the area, what considerations are given, or even advocated for regarding local labor helping with this work?  Ultimately, it's up to the developers who finance the construction, but it would be nice if we heard some of this work going to the community.

  1. The idiots on boro council would have never thought to have those questions answered. They are too worried about what kind of art will be displayed on Plum Street mall.

  2. Fact #1: The Media Borough Planning Commission unanimously voted to recommend that Council oppose the plan submitted for this project. Fact #2: The applicant came to the Borough seeking simultaneous preliminary and final approval, which is currently an acceptable way to shotgun a project. Fact #3: Council unanimously approved the project. Fact #4: This process took more than a year. Fact #5: You weren't there for any of it. [My point... please get involved. Be the change.]

    1. Wait! What? The planning commission OPPOSED the plan unanimously and Boro Council APPROVED the plan unanimously? Why were both parties at opposite ends? What was council's reason for approval?

This town is seriously messed up. Something is not right with this.

    2. Probably because the planning commission will simply deny anything put before them. Remember, they are a commission that sits around thinking about how others should use their own property. Awful concept.

  5. After the Building Trades went after Killion in last years election, the plumbers dropped money into the RTSD election, and our local state republicans in control wouldn't go against the UFCW union in the LCB privatization, why would any Republican in the county help out Labor. Two Republican Labor Members lost elections in the past three years.

  6. Are we going to have residency requirements for workers now? That will solve the matter of illegal aliens taking local jobs. Shall our new requirements be state residency, county residency, or perhaps a 10 mile radius perhaps?

  8. I want to know what all this is about. What bricklayers from Texas? You mean bricklayers from California and Florida? I was there during the project and I remember correctly everyones faces there. Me and 2 others were there from Texas as general workers not bricklayers or contractors. Get your facts straight ungrateful Pennsylvanians! Don't burn my state of Texas just because things didn't turn out the way they did. I have no clue what happened there because I left back to Texas because I didn't like the way I was being treated. Haven't you heard you get for what you pay. You want to pay cheap and hire pure illegal aliens? Then so be it!
