24hr snow removal from sidewalks?

Neighbors raise concerns over the borough's lack of effort with snow removal from the sidewalk of the future pocket park on 5th and Broomall Sts.

  1. Can the borrow gardener if still employed by Media Borough put in some time to clear the walkways in front of pocket park ?
Or maybe some adjacent neighbors who voted for the pocket park can jump in and volunteer some time ?

  2. This shouldn't surprise anyone. Neither should someone having a backbone on council to deal with the issues that happen at Media Elementary park, that will surely happen here.

  5. "Sour puss..." great contribution to the dialog. Does that mean democrates don't care if the borough provides basic municpal services?

  6. Pocket Park isn't even open for use and Boro Council is throwing a big middle finger at residents who live close to the park.
Sure you are gonna make sure the new Pocket Park is not a nuisance......you can't even salt and shovel the sidewalk. Keep up the good work.

  7. Heard Paul Robinson was removed as VP of council. What gives? Too logical for the group?

    1. Must not have liked his verbal dislike for the purchase of the pocket park where we went on to question the legality of the purchase
And referenced all the green space the borough of media already has or has free access to by all residents

  9. Part of a larger issue about the lack of effective snow removal in the Boro. Plowing the snow directly down the middle of the street only blocks in cars and houses even more with hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds of compacted snow, forcing residents to remove it by shovel. Depending on how wet it is, one cubic foot of snow can weigh, on average, between 7 and 20 pounds. If it also contains ice, it will weigh even more. There's are better ways to resolve this problem. Alternate plowing days could be scheduled. On day#1 (or the night before) residents could move their cars from one side of the street so it could be plowed; then on day-2, the other side could be done. That could save residents hours of back-breaking snow shoveling. Mini excavators produced by the Caterpiller Co. could easily clear the street corners on each block, which are often blocked by piles of plowed snow. Since where to dump all the snow after a heavy storm is always a problem, some cities use dump trucks with melting vats mounted on the back. The truck is then parked directly over a storm drain, and as the snow is loaded into the vat, it is promptly melted and the water exits directly down the storm drain. This eliminates the problem of where to put the snow, when locations are limited. These are suggestions I have made to the Boro in the past.

    1. As far as the newly acquired pocket park any able bodied person could shovel the 5th street frontage in 15 min or less if it's frozen timing is everything just like how the borough came to aquiire the property
Someone who reads this site should shovel the walk so ATM can then post a success story to start the year right

    2. Borough does not see a need for complicated snow removal efforts. The only consideration is the amount of overtime it costs out of the Highway budget.

    3. There is nothing complicated about clearing 28 ft of sidewalk if it is deemed complicated please refund our borough tax dollars

  10. Is the removal of VP of council by vote or executive decision ? Is it true Robinson was removed if so why is this ?
