Media Borough has a Rat Problem and Media Borough Council fails to provide resolve.

Media Borough Council fails to adequately explain what can be done about the rat problem brought about by a chicken coop.  Lacking resolve, neighbors take up matters into their own hands by laying traps and poison.  One speaker even cited, "he (coop owner) knows people in city council...and that's why it won't go anywhere."  Claims the coop owner is also trapping and shooting the rats with an air gun.

You can watch the entire video here.

  1. Two take aways. Paul Robinson tried to ban all from having chickens in the Borough in this meeting and was called out for it. Meanwhile Michael Straw and Michael Jordan were the only people who approached the mic and tried to show there were members of the public who owned Chickens that aren't causing an issue. Thank god there were people that were looking long term at the issues there and not looking foe a quick short term stop.

    1. Another example of a borough code / ordinance gone amuck
Unfortunately you can't trust people to maintain their coop's correctly and in a urban environment things like this can happen. Chickens aren't pets although they may have names so does the hawk that perches in nearby trees

  2. If you watch the whole video you can see Paul Robinson being an @$$ and trying to ban all chickens in the Borough to help "fix" this horrible situation. Banning all chickens won't solve this issue and neither will the political posturing. Michael Straw called him out in the meeting and made it clear what Paul Robinson was trying to do. He needs to go, why the Democrats haven't gotten rid of him is beyond me.

  3. Look how defensive council gets! They are not concerned about solving the problem but more annoyed that they are being confronted.

    1. Look how Peter Williamson and Paul Robinson got into a fight in the middle of the meeting! I thought that was quite interesting how Paul accused Peter Williamson of a few things in this meeting! He's a hot head, let's get one of the Republicans on this year. They can't be any worse than temper tantrum Paul!

    2. Chicken Dinner.......Council is being defensive because Council Person Amy Johnson has had a chicken coop for over 10 years in he back yard and her neighbor Council President Brian Hall has looked the other way. Media Borough Council the KINGS and Queens of DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO. Total hypocrites the ordinance specifically bans CHICKENS in the Borough Council just refuses to enforce it because one of their own decided it did not apply to her.

    3. This is what happens when they are confronted they don't know what to do! This is probably the last year for awhile this Council is all Democratic, it's a shame but Paul Robinson has to go!

No where does it say that Chickens are illegal in the Borough Code, it says that they can be kept as household pets.

    5. " let's get one of the Republicans on this year. They can't be any worse than temper tantrum Paul!" Riiiiight, because things went so well when republicans were not just on council but in charge...how about a sane Democrat run against him.

Too late the primaries are gone and no Democrat stepped up to challenge Paul Robinson. Our only chance for Paul Robinson to lose is to vote for Straw, who happens to be quite chill and tempered. It's either take Paul and his rude commentary and his antics for 4 more years or vote for a sane Republican. I am going to vote for Straw, because there's nothing wrong with voting for someone who doesn't come off as an @$$.

  4. If you watch the whole video this guy doesn't get all his facts straight. Chickens are allowed to be in the Borough if they are pets. This guy's issue should be about the chickens causing an issue in the immediate area, not all the chickens in the Borough.

  5. This just drives me crazy. I bet this guy is a liberal Democrat who'll vote for all these people and not even know that they are the ones that are causing these issues!

    1. "This just drives me crazy. I bet this guy is a liberal Democrat " the gentleman being a Democrat and in particular a LIBERAL Democrat has nothing to do with your mental state or condition. Look at it this way, at least the "liberal Democrat" would be in favor of you getting the mental health care you say you need.

  6. How about potbelly pigs or miniature ponies can we keep them as pets in the Boro? Or is that open to interpretation also?

    1. § 311-67

      Restrictions on keeping of animals.
No lot or premises in any part of the Borough shall be used to keep or raise chickens, ducks, pigeons or other fowl, or any rabbits, hares, guinea pigs, white mice, hamsters or any other small animals with the exception of specimens kept as household pets, provided the keeping of same shall not cause a nuisance. No lot or premises in any part of the Borough shall be used to keep or raise any horses, cows, sheep or any other farm animals or wild animals or reptiles, whether domesticated or not."

So it clearly states at the end that pigs and miniature ponies are definitely not allowed in the Borough.

    2. Go ahead, the Borough will remove them because they're illegal to have in the Borough.

    3. Thanks for citing the Borough Code, Anonymous! But apparently, it's not written in plain enough English for some people. "Household pets" live in the house not outdoors. Once the weather starts to cool, these rats will be moving indoors, instead of staying in their underground burrows, 12 to 18 inches underground. They're probably already looking for winter nesting sites now. Orkin says: "Sightings of these pests during the day often indicate large infestations." https://www.orkin.com/rodents/rats/norway-rat

  7. Peter Williamson, Michael Straw, and Brian Hall (I hate to say it) were the only 3 people out of the 5 council candidates that made any sense at all on this issue. Paul Robinson was opportunistic as he always is, I saw how he was annoying the Mayor. Why did he call out Straw on the Shed issue? Straw never mentioned him in the beginning of the meeting when Michael Straw was talking about asking Council to support the Farmers Market shed. Robinson is just a wolf in sheep's clothing.

    2. Household pets are kept inside the house hence the term "household" animals kept outside are just that animals. Love how Council interprets issues on the fly to fit what they want. Media deserves these leaders.

  11. Michael Straw, Ryan Grace, and Michael Jordan were the only sane people in the room regarding this issue. Sad that this Council is so petty!

  12. I feel bad for this guy, some of his comments were over the top. Such as calling out a councilwoman, but for the most part he is just trying to help his neighborhood.

    1. What do you mean......."calling out a councilwoman"......if the councilwoman also raises chickens and raising chickens is not allowed according to the ordinance shouldn't Media Boro Tax Payers be informed that Council members DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAW.

If the nuisance chicken coop owner is name dropping personal friends on Council and inferring they and he get special treatment this should be made public.

    2. Raising chickens is ALLOWED in the Borough. Someone mentioned that in a thread above. It's clear that this one chicken owner is an issue and should be dealt with in regards to the ordinances that the Borough has. Why this guy had to mention a Councilwoman who owns Chickens LEGALLY is absurd.

      Delete
    3. I disagree, mentioning the councilwoman who also leaves unregistered vehicles out front of her house further illustrates the issue: They aren't held to the same laws or scrutiny.

Not only is she Hall's neighbor, she also belongs to the same party (Democrat).

    4. Is Amy Johnson on the ballot this year? I know Hall is since he was on my primary ballot.

    5. No Democrats are running Peter Williamson, Brian Hall, and Paul Robinson (aka a disaster), all are incumbents. Republicans are running Michael Straw, Ryan Grace, and Jessica Paine. Straw embarrassed Robinson in the meeting and Grace made a perfect statement about enforcement as well.

"What do you mean......."calling out a councilwoman"......if the councilwoman also raises chickens and raising chickens is not allowed according to the ordinance shouldn't Media Boro Tax Payers be informed that Council members DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAW." It is not ILLEGAL to raise chickens in the Borough. She isn't in violation of any ordinance regarding chickens. READ the ordinance.

    8. um yes it is. Council is like the Supreme court trying to change the meaning of the constitution; by trying to change the zoning ordinance that BAN CHICKENS IN THE BORO; by categorizing chickens as household pets.

      pathetic

    9. That's what the ordinance says. Go ahead and be a conspiracy theorist and try to deny it.

  13. How many more times is councilwoman Amy Johnson going to get to run the farmers market into the ground? What's this, the fourth time?

The confidence of both vendors and attendees that the town can run a proper market was lost years ago.

  14. I love that everyone is hating on Amy Johnson yet it was clear that Paul Robinson was the most opportunistic man in the room and didn't understand what he was even proposing to the acting Solicitor in the form of a ordinance. He got called out by members of the audience and mwmbers of Council. Paul needs to go, we've put up with his antics on the Borough Council for far too long.
