It was unfortunate to learn today that Benjamin's Market located on 1 West Front St., is closing. I caught up with the owner who said despite the improving business, they were unable to stay open due to financial reasons. He's not dissuaded nor did he promise anything, but stated that he has a few ideas and may be back in Media again soon. I hope so, he was on to something good that really could have evolved into a great shopping experience for residents.
Benjamin's Market is Closing
Sad...
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame because Benjamin's was a nice little market, but this closing is not surprising since they had to compete with Trader Joe's a block or two away.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when the fancy pizza/gelato place is going to open (I think owned by the Fellini people)? Seems like they have been doing construction for 3 years now!
Make it a mexican joint.
ReplyDeletesad - I hate to see anything in Media go. I do agree with making it a mexican joint though ;0
ReplyDeleteYES to a Mexican restaurant!!! It's the last thing (well, besides a music venue!) missing in Media.
ReplyDeleteMexican would be great, and instead of 2 Thai restaurants, I'd love one Thai and one Vietnamese restaurant. We'd have the world covered!
ReplyDeleteAhh...to dream...at least we have a farmer's market now.
ReplyDeleteSad news, yes. Nice little place, yes.
ReplyDeleteHard times for a tough location.
Mexican is missing. . . would be yummy!
Maybe the Farmers Market could relocate, pay their fair share of taxes & GET OFF THE PARKING LOT!
Staff was not that friendly and their stuff was overpriced ($8 for a jar of pasta sauce? This is Media, not Rittenhouse Sq!). Still, I hate to see any Borough business go under, just not sure their business model was right for the location.
ReplyDeletei agree, it was very cold inside and far too pricey for media....however, i will miss the liscio's bread! media is missing both mexican and cajun!
ReplyDeleteYou can find Liscio's bread/rolls at RoLynn Deli in Brookhaven. Great hoagies there too. i will miss Benjamin's market. Their lunch meat was world's better than trader joe's prepackaged "meat". Then again Boar's head is the best. i guess i'l have to to go Wayside market again...
