New Home to be built at corner of 6th and Olive Streets

As reported last Sunday, there will be new development at the corner of 6th and Olive Streets.  Based on the real estate listing, a new home is proposed at 30 W 6th Street.  With 4 beds, 3 baths and 2,600 sqf, this will be bigger than the surrounding homes, but based on the drawling, looks to be very nice.  It also appears  another house will be placed on this lot.

Price is listed at $625,000.  For more information, check out the listing.

  1. Good news. Will make all our properties worth more and help the tax base.

  2. The last nail in the coffin of "Everybody's Hometown". It is quite a shame when our own police force and other hard working people of modest (not poor, not rich) means cannot afford to live in the Borough. We're soon to become a one dimensional town with respect to income. Economic diversity IS a good thing. The rich don't lose sight of the struggles of those with lesser means, and those who are not rich live near examples of people whose hard work (in many cases) has lead to an increase in personal wealth.

    1. Hard work had nothing to do with it. Ask Mitt Romney. Put others out of work. Send the jobs out of USA.

  3. Not my aim, but I'm wealthy. The real estate people are chomping at the bit in Media. I got in early. You should have come when Media was "Everybody's Hometown." Agree with Anonymous, not so anymore.

  4. Most of the police force never lived in the borough. You're right rich people should not be allowed to live in Media or anywhere in the country for that matter! The correct phrase is "champing at the bit".

  5. The above comment is ridiculous. Media has a wide variety of housing and apartment stock. A couple high-end single family homes is but a drop in the bucket. It helps everyone, but will not price people out of the market. The town is made nicer, and there are many many price points for getting in.

Would you prefer they make the property a nuclear waste storage site? Then property values will go down, and our town can be safe from those awful people who are successful.

The same dialogue occurs routinely in Philadelphia. You take a war-zone neighborhood and start feeding some investment in, and the comments are overwhelmingly negative.

  6. I’m as liberal, Democratic Party loyal, and pro-99% as anybody out there, but to put a rip job on a nice house is unreal. It’s ONE house in a borough full of many different home prices. I’m in the process of trying to buy, rather than continuing to rent, in the borough and couldn’t come close to buying a $625,000 home. That home is 2 blocks north of houses that are worth a third of that. There are properties for sale in Media to fit just about any budget. Here is a nice link one can follow to see the plethora of housing options available:

Couple the listings with the numerous large apartment buildings in the borough, and you’re looking at living options for all type of people.
Although I reserve the right to think nasty thoughts to myself if the new house puts up any Corbett 2014 or Toomey 2016 signs in the future!

  7. Owning a home was always the American Dream. You can dream about Media. Dreams don't always come true. Glendolden, Ridley, Folcoft has some nice bargains. And the state of Delaware gives seniors a big brake on school and real estate taxes.

  8. Bring on the $600,000 houses, babay! In real estate jargon there is something known as the principle of progression whereby more expensive houses tend to increase the value of surrounding houses. If somebody can't afford Media, tough. Time to start looking in Eddystone or Trainer or somethin'. I can't really afford Villanova or Gladwyne so maybe they should lower the prices for me (lol). It is what it is.

    1. Phillyboy, I agree with you. I like that principle of progression concept. Anybody want to build a MacMansion on North Jackson Street, come on down.

  9. Hello to the new owners of this home. It's good that you've just googled your address so you can catch up on all the judgements everyone has already formed about you. Welcome to Media.

  11. I know this is an older thread, but a single home is not all that will be built on that block. A duplex at the corner was approved a couple years ago (the large single home is off the corner east along 6th). The listing has a link to the site plan which shows both buildings. And with the foundations for a set of twins being poured this week further east on the same side of 6th, that block is really going thru some changes!
