Poem in Your Pocket - May 10th and 11th - Celebrate Creativity!

RELEASE:

POEM IN YOUR POCKET!

If you plan to be in Media on Friday or Saturday, May 10th or 11th, don’t leave home without first putting a poem in your pocket. Why? So you can share it with your favorite store owner and earn a treat or discount.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Rose Tree Media School District libraries will sponsor
Poem in Your Pocket, a week-long celebration of literacy, poetry, and community that will take
place from May 6 – 11, 2013. During “Poem in Your Pocket” week, Media-area residents are
encouraged to share poems with one another – at home, at school and, more importantly,
in public places. On Friday and Saturday, May 10th and 11th, 23 stores and restaurants in
downtown Media and even the Media Police Station will offer special deals and discounts
to anyone who comes in and recites a poem. Merchants including the Bryn Mawr Running
Company, Déjà Vu Salon, Meredith’s Hallmark, Margaret Kuo’s, Zen Nails and Spa, and
Mango’s, to name a few, have signed on as sponsors of the event to try to attract more
business to State Street, and to reach out to a new group of customers.

Cheryl Ferguson of Fergy’s Hair Salon is one of Poem in Your Pocket’s enthusiastic
participating merchants. “We love having the kids come in,” she said. “Everyone stops what
they are doing to listen to the poems; some of them are really touching. We are always looking
for ways to meet new people and bring in new clients and Poem in Your Pocket helps us do
this. Plus, we really enjoy being part of this community event.”
