| Media's 5 Mile Race |
- Starting tomorrow at 4pm the Media Police will begin to cordon off traffic in preparation for the race. This will primarily be done on streets that encircle the course. Baltimore Pike and Providence Road will be open throughout the race with all access being restored at 8pm. The closer it gets to 7pm when the race starts, the harder it will be to maneuver within the borough, so get here early.
- It's also requested that if you live on the course, that you not park on the street if possible due to the safety of the runners. Downtown will be open and is a great place to catch the race. The Children's Fun Run is at 6pm at Barrall's Field.
Good luck to the runners and have a great time at one of Media's favorite events!

I'm so excited to bring the kids to the Fun Run tomorrow. Media is a zoo during the five miler. I'll have to park at my mother in laws house that's for sure. Good luck to all the adult runners. Do they still have bottled water and stuff for the kids at the Fun Run or should I come prepared?

ReplyDeleteYes. It tells us that it will never be a race that draws runners from the region, but that is ok. Many, if not most of the runners, are from the surrounding communities, and may only run a couple races each year. This is their big race. It's a community event. It doesn't have to be Broad Street to be successful.
DeleteI heard they maxed out on participants again this year. Does that tell you something?
ReplyDeleteIf they have enough runners, the event is a success. What difference does it make if the "best" runners don't participate?
ReplyDeleteIt sells out every year - and it draws huge crowds to spectate and enjoy the evening with great family, friends, food, and drink. That's what this event is about. There is no way to "ignore" this race, whether you run it or not. If the "best runners" (aka Del Co road runners haha) choose to stay away - that is their loss.

ReplyDeleteNot this Council. I remember it was a prior Council. Media didn't want to share any of the money with the Del Co Road Runners.
Deletesorry but you are both incorrect. This non-profit, yes, the race is run by a non-profit, not the borough. Media 5 Mile Race, Inc. pays for all police and highway overtime, all the services AND contributes the profits to other local non- profits. When the DCRR managed the event the borough paid for everything (txpayers $) and the club used it as their personal fundraiser. I hope that this clears up any misconceptions. Can't wait for 2014!

ReplyDeleteHow much money does 5 Miler make, and who gets it? Pretends it's for fun, but it is lucrative for the select groups who share the spoils.
ReplyDeleteSo, this entire comment thread is the result of the Delco runners being bitter they couldn't get $$ for endorsing the race? So now what? You boycott it? You sit and call it names? Say its no good? How very adult of you. It still is a great event for the families of Media, ad if it makes money for the Borough, bonus to me the taxpayer. Go do something else tonight. You won't be missed.
