Important Traffic Information for Tomorrow's Media 5 Mile Run

Media's 5 Mile Race
Tomorrow's the big day for Media as racers and spectators gather for the 5 Mile Race.  There was a community announcement made via phone this afternoon by the borough, but if you're not signed up for that notification service and didn't receive the message, here's what you need to know.

  • Starting tomorrow at 4pm the Media Police will begin to cordon off traffic in preparation for the race.  This will primarily be done on streets that encircle the course.  Baltimore Pike and Providence Road will be open throughout the race with all access being restored at 8pm.  The closer it gets to 7pm when the race starts, the harder it will be to maneuver within the borough, so get here early.
  • It's also requested that if you live on the course, that you not park on the street if possible due to the safety of the runners.  Downtown will be open and is a great place to catch the race.  The Children's Fun Run is at 6pm at Barrall's Field.

Good luck to the runners and have a great time at one of Media's favorite events!

  1. I'm so excited to bring the kids to the Fun Run tomorrow. Media is a zoo during the five miler. I'll have to park at my mother in laws house that's for sure. Good luck to all the adult runners. Do they still have bottled water and stuff for the kids at the Fun Run or should I come prepared?

  2. The excitement was when the Del Co Runners Club participated. It is a nothing run now.

    1. Who cares? Those who live here know it's a great event that few communities in this region can match. You can keep trying to discourage us, but it's not going to work.

    2. Only a Del Co Club Runner would post something so ludicrous. Don't flatter yourself. Media doesn't need you.

  3. Does this mean the roads will be closed for good and we will have to walk everywhere, like 3rd Street? These nut jobs in Media make me wonder.

  4. Ladies and Gentleman,

Let's not get ahead of ourselves and enjoy what has become a cherished Media tradition that exemplifies the pure essence of our town and our fine residents.

So, let me be the first to say, F U DAVIDSON!!!

    Run strong and cheer loudly.

    That

  5. The best runners ignore Media's 5 Miler. Does that tell you something.

    1. Yes. It tells us that it will never be a race that draws runners from the region, but that is ok. Many, if not most of the runners, are from the surrounding communities, and may only run a couple races each year. This is their big race. It's a community event. It doesn't have to be Broad Street to be successful.

  6. I heard they maxed out on participants again this year. Does that tell you something?

  7. If they have enough runners, the event is a success. What difference does it make if the "best" runners don't participate?

  8. It sells out every year - and it draws huge crowds to spectate and enjoy the evening with great family, friends, food, and drink. That's what this event is about. There is no way to "ignore" this race, whether you run it or not. If the "best runners" (aka Del Co road runners haha) choose to stay away - that is their loss.

  10. Media politics is the reason Del Co Road Runners aren't here. And that's a shame.

    1. Not this Council. I remember it was a prior Council. Media didn't want to share any of the money with the Del Co Road Runners.

    2. sorry but you are both incorrect. This non-profit, yes, the race is run by a non-profit, not the borough. Media 5 Mile Race, Inc. pays for all police and highway overtime, all the services AND contributes the profits to other local non- profits. When the DCRR managed the event the borough paid for everything (txpayers $) and the club used it as their personal fundraiser. I hope that this clears up any misconceptions. Can't wait for 2014!

  11. Hey I think the current council are dill weeds but this is not the event to carp about them.Third St. Being open would relieve much of the congestion but there is another time for that. Nov.2013

  12. How much money does 5 Miler make, and who gets it? Pretends it's for fun, but it is lucrative for the select groups who share the spoils.

    1. So, this entire comment thread is the result of the Delco runners being bitter they couldn't get $$ for endorsing the race? So now what? You boycott it? You sit and call it names? Say its no good? How very adult of you. It still is a great event for the families of Media, ad if it makes money for the Borough, bonus to me the taxpayer. Go do something else tonight. You won't be missed.
