Media in Two Minutes

A special thanks to a reader who told me that he setup his Mom's IPAD with a icon that links to directly to ATMpa.  He said, "that's all she needs."

Wow, thanks for the kind words and support!

Ok, Let's Go!

Media VFW - Last Sunday of the Month BREAKFAST
At 8:30 this morning the doors open up for one of the no longer, best kept secrets in Media.  That's right, c'mon by for the best breakfast in town.  Nowadays, you can hardly get an omelette for $8, but here you can get a whole all-you-can-eat breakfast for that price.  Kids eat for $4.  If it wasn't good, I wouldn't be writing about it this often.  In fact, they had a huge turn-out last month, so get there early.

Happy Anniversary to Pinocchio's Pizza!

This Media tradition is celebrating its 58th year as one of the best Pizzerias around.  They also have become very well know for the beer garden they recently added a few years ago.  I was at Pinocchio's for dinner a few weeks back and the place was packed.  Great food, good prices and the kids love it.  They still even twirl the pizza dough in the air as they've done for so many years.

Thank You, Media Highway Department!

E 6th St.
These guys are so good at their job, that they make it look easy.  Thanks to the hardworking folks on the Media Highway Department who keep this town in tip-top shape.  Whether it's trash pickup, landscaping, clean-up after events, or plowing snow; they get it done with a smile and are some of the nicest people you can meet.

Here's some recent work they did on E 6th Street.

Media Theatre Was A Blast

I like plays at the Media Theatre, but they're just not my thing that I will make plans to see routinely.  I can't say I go to a lot of body building competitions either, but the event they had a the Media Theatre yesterday was awesome.  It was great to go to this historical theatre and see something a little different, than what's on the playbill.

Snaps at Dining Under the Stars
For some reason this topic created a lot of controversy due to me pointing out that Snap(little firecrackers) were a out of hand at Dining Under the Stars.  Maybe people thought I was infringing on their pursuit of happiness, but I wasn't.  DUTS is a great family event and should be presented that way.  Eitherway, the Snaps issue has really improved over the last few weeks.  I've not been in town a lot, but the brief times I was at DUTS, I noticed it was better.  It wasn't totally eliminated, but greatly improved.  Thanks!

Media Taxpayers deserves its $$$ back!
People wouldn't have had the foggiest idea what happened to the $20,000 Mayor McMahon spend on a bogus video of Media had I not raised the issue on this site.  They sure as heck wouldn't have been able to see it on television, as the mayor and borough council claimed it would be shown nationally.  Oh it was, or is, who knows.  If you happen to live in Spokane Washington, you may get a glimpse of it at 7:00am Sunday morning.

To show you just how badly we were scammed by Mayor McMahon, here's a video done for the Delaware County Science Institute who produced a marketing video to promote their cause.  It's concise, to the point, speaks to the audience, impactful, tells a story and compels interest.  Notice, no highly paid voice overs here or monologue over pictures.  The genuine enthusiasm this kid has comes right through and makes the whole story work.  I'm sure it was done for a fraction of the cost and done locally too.  What's worst, is that Mayor Bob McMahon and Borough Council knew the Florida company they were dealing with was shady, yet they proceeded with this mess anyway.

  2. Tedman how about a pic of the 4th street boulders where BLCC placed at the end of the block. Granted it's their property and they do have the right to place them, but come on they don't use the space. I'm glad they have the communities interest at heart. Thanks Paul C you're number1!

    2. Guess Paul C. Is just returning the love he gets from the neighbors on 4th St. Maybe they can call the DEP and ask them to move the stones next time they call the DEP about the lake.

As for not using the space I thought the folks on 4th st. Where all about open space and woodlands. Now they want private parking on private property. Hypocrites!!!!!

  5. Can you imagine how the employees must feel? Every year Council adopts a budget with a $60,000 contingency to piss away on things like this video. Insulting to employees and taxpayers alike.

  6. Teamsters and/or police will be all over that next time they negotiate. Way to go Council.

  7. $20,000 for the video is literally chump change. For that price what did you expect, that it would be aired on this year's Super Bowl halftime show? And the incident in FL was probably an isolated event. Got a question for you: how many of these videos were produced without a problem? Exactly.

In regards to pizza I would rate Pinocchio's a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. Talking about the pizza itself, not the store. Would rate Cocco's an 8 and give them the gold.

  8. Hear that borough council: $20,000 is "chump change". Quite a commentary coming from someone who appears to support your decision making.

    1. Apparently the mayor thinks it's chump change too

  9. The Friends of Glenn Providence Park are complete hypocrites. They bash BLCC, while shamelessly use the parking lot they provided at Lemon and 4th. Wha'da have to say about that Rumsey? I suppose you and your wife still think the club is racist? yet you use their services for free and have for years! What's that make you?

    2. You like to use that term here, and you do it quite often. I am sure that you are using it to sensationalize. However, you do realize that you are using it incorrectly, don't you?

    3. The FREAKS of Glen Providence Park seem to be showing their true hypocritical colors. I guess BLCC can't be all that bad, but they should send the traitors a parking bill anyway.

    4. As long as we're on "using terms correctly", let's be clear about who and what "BLCC" is. Broomall's lake Country club is made up of about three hundred member families who pay annual dues and enjoy swimming and socializing at the pool, playing tennis, swimming competitions, etc. The jerks who are making all of the fuss about the dam and lake are a part of a much smaller group of "equity members" who are the actual owners of the organization, and still fewer among them who are "on the board".

So, I'm just saying that well over 90 percent of the membership of the club have nothing to do with the "BLCC" that is causing all this crap. Don't blame it on us!! We don't care for that mudpuddle ourselves, and could have a beautiful well-maintained park of our own on this side of the dam (and a much better relationship with the community) if the club owners would wise up and be reasonable.

This has been tearing the club apart for years; personally, I'm done with it. Others are too.

  10. Are the snaps REALLY that much of a problem??? Is it the noise or that people feel it is littering. DUTS is supposed to be a family event, this sounds like "the children should be seen and not heard."

    1. I agree it is a family event, but the snaps do not need to be a part of it. As the parent of a child who does not like loud noises, it's no fun having to leave because my kid is freaking out. And yep, they leave a big mess too! I have no problem with the kids running around up there and enjoy it actually watching my three have fun with their friends, but they can do that without the snaps.

  11. Tedman,
You fail to mention, in regards to the Weightlifting Event that was a rental for The Media Theatre this past weekend, that shows such as "Mame" starring Broadway legend Andrea McArdle and "Hairspray" bring in thousands of patrons per year over a four to five week time span per musical. And you fail to mention that over the summer we have over 300 children here in our summer camp, whose parents fill the theatre every two weeks to see the camp shows. These people come to town and enjoy the restaurants, etc. It's a shame you don't recognize the mission of the professional music theatre company at the theatre that brings in more people than any other event. The theatre strives to bring in an audience that will keep returning to Media borough time and time again, not just for a one time event. Our mission is to inspire and engage for the long term.

    1. Roger, do you want Tedman to describe all recent events at, and the mission of, The Media Theatre every time he mentions it? This was just a quick run down of what was going on in Media recently and he mentioned the body building event. He said it was nice to see something different there. He was not knocking the theatre. Don't be so defensive.

  12. Explaining facts is not being defensive. Lots of anonymous comments on here, by the way, but I do use my own name. If people deem me defensive, at least they have a face to put to the name.

  13. Sometimes anonymous comments bring important and uncomfortable matters to the public's attention. For example, are Media Borough taxpayer dollars indirectly being utilized to fund an entity that is "leasing" the theater from the Borough? Asked another way, is the Borough subsidizing the rental payments? Just askin...
