Isolated Power Outage in Media due faulty transformer on Monroe and 5th St.

Faulty Transformer at 5th and Monroe St.
If you live in the vicinity of 5th Street and Monroe, you may be experiencing a decrease in electricity or no electricity at all. Peco has identified the issue and has assistance in route to fix the problem, which involves replacing a faulty transformer. They believe the time to fix will be a couple of hours.  I've asked for an update should the outage exceed 10pm EST.

With temperatures approaching 90 degrees, where's the involvement of Media Mayor Bob McMahon and elected officials on Borough Council?  Power outages in the borough have been a common occurrence lately.

  1. The Media Socialists just wait for someone else to deal with it. (i.e. You, Tedman)

    Thanks for the update.

    1. PECO is socialist now? You both need to grow up, stop electioneering over every issue, and assign blame where it should go.

    2. Yes, too bad "The Media Socialists" don't get out there on ladders and repair the transformer themselves. Come on you socialists pull yourself up by your bootstraps and GIT R DONE! Or, you know, call PECO whose responsible for making the repairs and will send out qualified technicians to get the transformer repaired or replaced.

  2. Tedman - Thanks for the update, but I have to ask: What would you do differently if you were Mayor? I actually think you could be a decent candidate, and I agree the current Mayor has grown complacent and lost track of the duties and authority of a Mayor in a Borough in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, BUT a blown transformer is not a campaign issue.

  3. It's by far a campaign issue and I don't even look at it as such, but is a BIG concern for those who are affected. Would you rather have a mayor that does nothing, or someone out looking after the community on their own time on a Sunday evening? It's the right thing to do.

That's the difference, that's the commitment and that's would a mayor should do who has a responsibility to this town and the people who need answers!

    Thanks for reading.

  4. And the mayor could do what, exactly?

    1. According to some folks around here the Mayor should dress up as each and every one of the Village People and:

      - build a bridge
      - build a Wawa
      - produce movies like Cecil B. DeMille
      - compel PECO to fix transformers with a single work

let me know if I missed anything

  5. Nice. I'm not 100% sure I agree that a Mayor should be doing those things, but it's about time you started being more clear about what differentiates you from the other guy. Good luck!

  6. Ted, you got to be kidding me! What in the world does the Mayor have to do with the transformer that Peco will repair!

  7. Tedman,

Thank you for the diligence and update.

  8. When the power went out in the Holly House last Winter for 2 days, we were left to call Mayor McMahon for help. He was essentially useless.

    At least Tedman takes initiative.

  9. I see Tedman's point: he would provide information and moral support to those in need. The term Socialist is unhelpful and was not utilized by Tedman. Also, he never said he expected anyone except PECO to fix the transformer.

    1. Which council person leads the health committee? Is there a "cooling" center listed on website?

  10. I think the point Tedman is making is that these power outages seem to be happening more frequently. Is the mayor even aware of the issue and if he is, is he talking to PECO about solutions or is he too busy looking for his next photo op? I don't think Tedman's suggesting that McMahon climb the pole to fix the transformer ... although a good jolt of electricity might spur the mayor into being more proactive.

  11. I believe any Mayor would be overstepping his bounds if he attempted to approach PECO in that fashion. It is becoming increasingly clear that people just don't understand the role of a mayor in a borough in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We already know the current Mayor doesn't get it. Tedman, it might be helpful if you clarified for everyone what you feel the duties, responsibilities and authority of a Mayor are, specifically in a borough in Pennsylvania.

    1. Absolutely wrong. When neighboring Upper Providence Township had repeated and long lasting power outages, the council enacted the PECO neighborhood outreach department to do serious testing on the loads and cables. It was determined that the infrastructure just could not handle it anymore, and all of Ridley Creek Road and surrounding areas were re-wired and re-cabled in 2009.
THAT'S what RESPONSIBLE leaders do. So, if I were Tedman, I'd continue making some serious noise about this and have PECO come and test all of the borough.

    2. Maybe Borough Council... maybe. But not a Mayor. Look at the Pennsylvania Borough Code and get back to me.
