Media PA was Scammed and Here's How it Happened

Today I want to illustrate a point I've been trying to make for the last year and it involves a video done by Mayor McMahon that cost taxpayers $20,000.  I'll keep it short and the math easy, but the people of Media need to understand how badly they've been mislead.

With no fancy celebrities, national tv distribution, or so-called production quality direction, I was able to create two Youtube videos last week about driving conditions in Media that combined had over 700 views in the first 24hrs. You may have seen them in prior posts.  In addition, someone sent me a video they did about Media during a snow storm and in one week it had over 2,500 views.

The cost of my production was about $300 dollars for equipment and 3 hours of my time. Truthfully, it was fun and drew over 1000 views if you count the third video I did on Facebook.  Not a big deal by any means, but in contrast to Mayor Bob McMahon's $20,000 video, it's astounding.

With a voice over and appearance by Terry Bradshaw from a production company that claims to have national distribution outlets; the Media Business Authority, along with Mayor McMahon spent $20,000 with this Florida company (not even produced locally) to make a 5 minute video.  This same company was fined by the Florida Attorney General for fraud, but when that was made known, Mayor McMahon and Democratic Council President, Hall continued anyway.

What eventually transpired was a video that took most of a year to create and an apparent showing on a tv series called "Today in America."  I never saw it on on air despite being assured that I would. However, this video was also uploaded to Youtube in May 2013 and currently has only mustered a grand total of 2,317 views!

So here's the totality:  McMahon and the MBA spends $20,000 in taxpayer money for a 5 minute video that gets 2,317 Youtube views in six months, I spend $300 for three, two minutes videos and get over a 1,000 views in 24hs.  A resident in Media, not sure what he paid to make his, gets 2,500 views in one week

This $20,000 video was such a disaster it's already been abandoned as a promotional tool on the Media Borough website.  It's not even shown on the main page.

Where's the accountability?!?

  1. Right on, Tedman. I saw the video and it's poorly done. Terry Bradshaw was never in Media.
He is just a front man for a rip off company.

  3. I watched the 'Today In America' clip. It was okay. For 20k what did you expect, for it to be played at this weekend's super bowl halftime show? They were trying to be proactive and it probably was worth it. In my opinion, where they did waste money was in the bogus streetscape project back around 2000. They tried to save money by using cheaper bricks (cheesy pink ones) and eliminating the granite curbs. It would have been better to do the granite curbs and ax the bricks altogether. If it's not authentic it actually makes it worse. Media deserved the better quality materials, or otherwise, just don't do it. Hey, I like the town, just giving some tough love, keeping it real.

  4. $5000 for a sign on the parking garage that you can't see, who was responsible for that?

    1. Well at least you SAW and can SEE the sign on the parking garage. More people see that sign everyday as opposed to the silly stupid self serving look at me im on tv (if they ever run it on a channel people actually watch) 20,000 dollar waste of a commercial.

  5. Really? You're comparing dashcam videos to the 'Today in America' clip? How about putting some of that energy into HELPING MEDIA by thinking of ways to market that clip? Or is it more important for you to be right and council to be wrong? Coming up with ways to use that clip to help the town would go a lot further in your next election campaign than the constant council bashing, btw. It's getting tiresome.

    1. This is similar logic to what is being spewed for Obamacare. Many politicians hated it from the beginning, did not vote for it, pointed out why it can't work, warned that it won't work, and did everything in their power to stop it. Now that it is failing, they are supposed to drop their opposition, get behind it to make it work, and if it doesn't work it is their fault!

So now it is Tedman's responsibility to salvage this fiasco in Media? Brilliant.

    2. Unlike that fool in office and his his healthcare plan, at least Tedman didn't lie about it.

  6. Anyone with any common sense could see that the $20,000 was a complete waste. Anyone who attempts to defend this expenditure is just embarrassing themeselves.
