Media in Two Minutes!

Media in Two Minutes!
I'm just going to start typing away hoping I can make some semblance of an interesting story for today's M2M.  I must say, yesterdays' attendance of the St. Paddy's Day Parade in Springfield isn't making for a clear mind this morning, but WOW what a great day.  Also, special thanks to Uber who provided a bit of the transportation.

Ok, Let's Go!

ATM SPOTLIGHT!  Springfield's Irish Parade
Without a doubt, this was the most fun I've ever had at a St. Paddy's Day Parade.  At 10am I took the Media Trolley over to Saxer Avenue to a place called Duke's Tavern.  As I walked into Duke's, I saw virtually every front yard setup with tables, decorations and flags.  There were people every where and at that very point, I knew this was a big deal.

As the crowds grew, so did the anticipation as the beginning of the parade started at 12pm.  This wasn't your typical Media Mayor McMahon parade that lasts 4 minutes and 32 seconds, this parade went on continuously for 90 minutes.  It was a lot more than a parade, it was a wholeheartedly community celebration that included schools, dancers, businesses, emergency departments, Delaware county, state reps, congressmen and more.  If you had a special achievement you were proud of, I'm sure you had a chance to walk in this parade - it was that good and very well run.  Nice job, Springfield!

Media Youth Center Hall of Fame Induction Dinner
I couldn't stay very long at this event, but I did drop by long enough to see they had a great turnout.  It was great to see a lot of businesses and families contributing to this cause, especially Iron Hill Brewery that really steps up with a generous contribution.

Congratulations to last night inductees:
  • Carl Boston
  • Jack & Eunice Messick
  • R. Barclay Surrick
  • Donald Trusty
  • James Walsh
Rose Tree Fire Company St. Paddy's Day Celebration
I promised I would attend this event and last night I was able to make that happen.  I had a really good time visiting with the Rose Tree Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary group that organizes this fundraiser.  They had a great turn-out that I'm sure had a lot to do with the excellent food and entertainment.  It's great the community has an organization like this, as I know a lot of people enjoy socializing and helping out their local fire department.  Great to see a lot of folks from the Holly House there last night.

The Future of John's Grille
I was very sorry to hear the passing this week of James Carney III who was the owner of John's Grille.  The place will never be the same, and neither will the comforting atmosphere this bar provided to so many for so long.  For those that don't know, the bar and building are for sale with from what I hear moderate interest from at least one buyer. We'll see what happens here.

Looking for something to do today?
If you're looking for a change of scenery and have 30 seconds, check out this video.  It's a little early in the season yet, but this place will be a great place to visit in the warmer months.

  2. We make the annual pilgrimage to the Springfield parade via the trolley. It is a very festive event. Thanks for giving it the shout-out that it deserves

Separate topic: have you noticed how LONG the light cycle is at State and Orange? People think there is something wrong with the light and go through the red because it is so out of sync with the other State Street lights.
