Here's a recent sketch of what's going on with the Granite Run Mall Development

Here's a recent sketch of what's going on (- JCPenny) with the Granite Run Mall Development. Demolition/Construction is expected to begin in July.  What still remains to be answered is whether this new development will be a Class A shopping experience and here's why that might be important.

  1. I'm not sure how it could be considered a "Class A" anything with a Boscov's, a Sears, and apartment buildings that front busy streets and are surrounded by vast parking lots. It just looks SAD. I hope I'm wrong!

  2. I like it- we don't need to be another massive center like KOP with the accompanying traffic. I like Boscovs and Sears has been around forever. Give the plan a chance. When the mall first opened they kind of killed the Media shopping area but downtown Media keeps getting stronger in restaurants, bars and specialty shops so it's a nice balance.

  3. Where's the movie theater?

    1. If I'm reading this right, the movie theater is where "APT 1" will go... so I guess the theater is closing.

    2. They are adding a new theater as part of the retail where JCP was.

  4. The movie theater is being moved to where the old JCPenny's was.

  6. Will people really pay $1400-1500/month to live in a shopping center, especially the apartments right on Route 352 where Chi Chi's was?

  7. I seems like the interior of the current mall is mostly being replaced by a parking lot. And all the vast parking lots around Sears and Boscov's are still there. Maybe things will change but this diagram does not make me feel hopeful.

  9. People shop and dine. They are seriously lacking on the dining aspect of things.
