Media in Two Minutes

Media in Two Minutes

Brick N Brew THIS SPRING!
As I mentioned earlier in the week, Brick N Brew is wasting no time with their new renovations at the former Plumstead Inn location on State Street.  Word is that they'll be open sometime in the Spring.  That's a bit of a broad timeframe, but I'd expect they'd like to be open by Dining Under the Stars.

Wawa THIS DECEMBER
Site of the new Wawa
After four years of what was essentially nonsense and confusion by Media Borough Council, things have been kicked free to proceed with the new Wawa to be built on the corner of Providence Rd, and Baltimore Ave.   The former gas station there now is expected to be razed soon.

Coffee Shop/Roaster in the plans?
Proposed Coffee Shop and Roaster
We have a few coffee shops in Media, but not one that actually does roasting on the premises.  That may be about to change, as the settlement took place last week on the former Marty's Ex-Exxon property.  I'm not sure what the final price was for the property, but it was on the market for somewhere around $375k.  The new owners are looking to not only have a coffee shop, but also do roasting on the premises.  Made in Media, or at least roasted in Media?  I'm sold and look forward to what can be done at this location.

ATMpa is VERY Responsive!
Throughout the week I may get 10 - 20 individuals who reach out to me privately with a host of questions, updates or just a friendly "Thanks"  I reply to them all as quickly as I can, but Facebook tells me it's 100% of the time, and within 5 minutes.

Nether Providence Gets It
A well informed community is a great defense again crime, and no one understands that more than the Nether Providence Police Department and the great job they do with their social media awareness.  They've had such success and appreciation regarding their own Facebook page, that the Nether Providence municipality is jumping on board too.  Well Done!

Here's why Paul Robinson should be President of Media Borough
I've had quite a few battles with council Vice President Paul Robinson, some of which were epic; but he's the only one that seems to know and explain what's going on in this town and I appreciate that. From what I've seen, he shows up prepared, understands the issues, offers options and speaks up against his complacent counterparts. Good or bad, he shows the leadership this town lacks.
Paul Robinson should be Council President

If you've been following the Media Library financing situation, you may have seen Paul at the forefront trying to sort out what could be an expensive undertaking for resident taxpayers.  I have to hand it to the library board though, the've cleverly outmaneuvered borough council and appear to be calling the shots on a million dollar agreement drafted not by them, but by the borough.

Here's what I've found: Evidently, if the library defaults on the loan/s, borough council can't just take over the property, they'd have to take the library to court and sue for the real estate asset.   In addition, the library declined to allow the $10,000 that the organization receives a month from the borough, to be used in a more efficient (guaranteed) way to pay down its debt.   So essentially, the borough pays the library $10,000 (per month), and the library then turns around and pays the borough $12,000 (per month). Instead of $10,000 changing hands each month, Paul Robinson proposed that the $10,000 be automatically applied to debt reduction, which guarantees payback of the loan.  The library board said no, which Brian Hall and Peter Williams agreed to by saying it would be "harmful" if the library didn't get a monthly check.  What's just as bad, Paul Robinson went on to say he has serious concerns the library can raise the money to pay off debt and operationally fund itself.

  1. Tedman --- I just don't get all this doom and gloom you post about the new library. Sure the brain trust on Council (& Kent Davidson) gave the Library $1,000,000.00 with really no plan to get paid back. But look on the bright side the library is selling commemorative bricks for $100 each. After they sell 10,000 problem solved. I'm sure that and maybe a bake sale or another Prom at the community center and all will be square. Remember Tedmam Council knows what is best after all they are elected to look after and take care of us its the Democrat way.

    2. CVP - enough with the bitter sarcasm - it's hurtful and doesn't solve anything he issue at hand! By now, we should understand that the solution to this one is to turn the 3rd street bridge into a Greenway, drain evil Broomall's Lake and install many more police cameras on State Street.

    3. Why don't we produce an infomercial, maybe spend $20,000 or so. It will do so much for the town's reputation that money will pour in.

  4. Will the new Wawa impact the other Wawas in Media? Baltimore Pike or Rt. 1 and 252?

    1. Wawa claims they intend to keep all 3.
Call me cynical, but I suspect business reality will cause the decision to be revisited 6-18 months after the new store opens.
