What will happen to this vacant store on State Street?

Prior to being a Hallmark store, it was the Media Liquor Store.
It's been vacant since January of 2017, but that's not to say there hasn't been any interest.  From what I'm told Trader Joe's was interested in this property with the idea of using it to expand its current store on State Street.  Whether that was to include a possible alcohol section or something else, we may never know as it appears it needed a lot of modifications to suit its needs.

As for Trader Joe's eventually selling alcohol at the Media store, that's an interesting concept that makes a lot of sense.  The Granite Run Acme has done well with selling wine and beer over the last year and most of that success can be contributed to convenience.  Trader Joe's could easily benefit from the same setup.  Whether they have or are pursuing a liquor license, that comes down to who you ask, but with state laws loosening up recently, it'll probably happen at some point.

So what will happen with this property?  It's one of the biggest storefronts in town which makes it more attractive towards being a restaurant than anything else.  I'm told the lease is going for $7,500k per month, but with lack of parking, that might be the location's biggest drawback.

Considering this is one of the biggest store fronts in town, why doesn't Boro Council set up a Citizens Committee to select what will be allowed to go in. They could even send out a survey to all the residents with some options. Or better yet simply take it as open space for state street.

    2. This is the first of many store fronts to be open over the next 18 months. Think to yourself, which retail businesses are probably hanging on by a thread. A citizen's committee? What experience would they have? Boro council needs to sit down with the major real estate owners on state street and formulate a long term plan. If not, it will be a five block food court with Deals banks and nail salons peppered in

  2. IF I had the money, it'd be a Lego Store, but I don't, so I'll wait for the next vape shop, VHS to DVD, or some other cheesy and low-rent store with bated breath.

  3. Who is the landlord ? They ultimately decide what store goes in here
You have to be generating several million dollars a year in revenue to afford that rent
Another antiques store is not likely to produce that kind of revenue

  5. While your site is interesting and informative, I believe you can improve upon it by making sure your facts are accurate prior to posting.FYI. The asking monthly rental for this space is considerably less than the $7,500.00 per month figure that you quoted in your post.

  6. Small towns and bookstores go together, but Media's high rent/over development will drive any culture and small business away. Guess with all the new residents coming in, a restaurant best bet. (boring)

  7. A developer could probably tear it down and build at least a 4-story condo building.
