Joseph D. Doubet Jeweler on State Street to close

After 25 years in business on State Street, Joseph Doubet Jewelers is set to close.   For a little Media history,  there was a breakfast sandwich (fried egg with cheese on toast) named after the store that was served at the Koffee Korner.  I believe it was created by Gerd Knudsen the first owner of the Koffee Korner

Thank you for your service to Media!

  1. Hmmm...what will take its place?
There just aren't enough restaurants and banks in Media...maybe.

    1. A new consignment boutique is in town--Magic Threads, in the Media Mini Mall next to 320 Market. That's one more retail shop to help balance out the restaurants.

  2. More tax revenue gone seems like media has reached its tipping point
Where are the results from the consultant the borough hired and how did that report cost ?

  4. What is the media business authority doing about all the vacancies
Do they have anything to say about the current situation
There is only so much craft beer and
E cigarettes that a small town can support

  5. Please define "boom". There are a lot of empty store fronts, including Doubet, Turning Point, Soreal and of course the townhouse. I'm likely missing some.

Local pols should be concerned with public safety and infrastructure. Our stormsewer systems need repairs, per the boroughs report posted on line. Curbs, sidewalks and crosswalks are falling apart. Media Elementary, a playground used by lots of people every day needs repairs\upgrades. Not to mention the drug problems associate with the playground after dark. 3rd street and the crumbling parking garage are 2 issues that have not be resolved and it appears that they will not be fixed anytime soon.

If there is such a “boom” why are these issues not addressed.

    1. The mayor ran unopposed
I guess media residents are content with there tax dollars being wasted
      On things we don't need
I.e. Thousands of dollars to stop the third street bridge project, Lisa Johnson buying 50 k in cameras for Baltimore Pike when we have banks that could buy there own cameras,
The mayor and his wheeling and dealing is not looking out for this town- also how much money did Brian Hall get pad from Media Borough for handling the legal affairs in court ?

    2. Can we elect Vince for mayor so our crumbling infrastructure can be fixed

    3. It is hard to call Doubet an empty storefront, since they are still there and he is retiring in due course. And the Towne House is being held by a developer/speculator who bought because real estate is so valuable now. The others are normal turnover, actually substantially less than you would expect at any given moment. My house is worth 50 percent more than 5 years ago, through nothing I have done other than being lucky to be in the right place at the right time. And people are coming here who never would have cime before, and there is a ton of commercial and residential development going on. That is classic boom. There are always thing that could be better, and those are good examples, but to ignore all this and pretend that the sky is falling just makes people roll their eyes and ignore.

    4. Don't forgot all the empty offices in Media a related but separate issue to the retail loss. the boom can signal peak conditions. Local gov't here in media has fell down on the job a fair statement based upon watching council meetings and looking at all the crumbling infastructure in media.
Good thing they sold the water company because we would likely have issues with our drinking water if we can't fix a bridge dam or a parking garage there is no way we could replace 10 miles of water mains
