New bar coming to State Street in Media, PA

Villa of Colors nail bar is coming to State Street.  This business will occupy the former site of Quincy's Market at the corner of State and Jackson St.

  1. Great, another nail place. Just what Media needs. And they ripped down that beautiful Art Deco facade too...so sad!

  2. We need to stop the idiots on Council for running this town into the ground. Why not a clothing store or a new shop? Why another $^%&ing nail salon!?!?!

    1. Headline says a new bar. I believe the nail salon sign is from a former business.

    2. Anon 9:59: So….this I councils fault? You want a clothing store or a new shop? I have a great idea: how about you open one? How about you get a business plan together, get the funding for a small business loan, do the branding and the marketing to drive demand and negotiate with the landlords for rent? There is absolutely nothing stopping. This is how the free market works, which (I believe) is what you actually want. You know – core American fundamentals. IT is so funny to me that people complain media government doing too much to infringe our rights and yet at the same time want them to supersede the supply/demand economy that is fundamental to our democracy. Just to be clear: you want the small number of borough council officials to pick and choose which stores open on State street? That seems to be the exact opposite of minimum government and consumer free choice. Don’t want a nail salon? Don’t patronize the store. While you are at it, stop buying from Amazon and shop local at the shops we do have in Media; only that will encourage and incentivize other small business to open.

    3. Anon 10/31/19 9:06 your point is taken however the borough paid a consultant to revitalize the downtown were any of these reccomendation D followed do council folk know how to lobby entrepreneur's bre certain they're a lot of small business opportunities
The tax rules are advantageous to same as your allowed to lose money for several years
Sorry but part of this problem falls on council people past and present

  3. Just sad. This is why I don't even go downtown anymore. I live in Media yet drive to Upper Providence to enjoy my nights out.

  4. Wish it could have been an H&M or a store that will draw young people into the town and bring more action. Why we have to settle for another Nail Salon that'll just go out of business within a year is beyond me.

    1. I think all these nail salons are money laundering businesses. no way can they make enough money to pay those high rents

    2. Agree - I oft thought that a small Target or even a Williams-Sonoma type store would thrive in the Boro. ANYTHING, other than perhaps another Bank is better than a Nail Salon.

  6. Anyone who is critical of this being a nail salon should look no farther than to blame the current Borough Council who is all in ONE PARTY (Democrat). They are the one's that have stifled the growth of businesses on State St. in favor of the restaurant crowd.

If you want real, lasting change. On this coming Tuesday DO NOT give the Democratic incumbents for Media Borough Council your vote.

  7. I love how you all complain and act like the council determines which businesses invest in certain areas. If you want a retail store to be there, go ahead and open one with your life savings on the line and see how the current market works. Bottom line is the building is no longer vacant. They created jobs while the construction work was occurring and also once it opens there will be a staff. That staff will potentially eat lunch or shop in town on breaks or after work. They will pay media wage taxes. Seriously, what is not to like. I don't care if they open another nail salon or a bar, or anything, its opening. Someone is taking a risk and I welcome them to town and hope their business thrives.

    1. I wish we were in the Soviet Union as everyone here apparently wants. Then Council could pick the new stores. That would be great.
