Turning Point Gallery is Closing its Doors

One of the longest-running retail stores on State Street will be closing its doors for good.  This week signs were posted on the windows of the Turning Point Gallery.   There's been no official statement released on their Facebook page.   From the "About" section, the store was established in 1987.

About
Established in 1987. Turning Point Gallery represents over 200 juried American studio artists. Specializing in American Studio glass, American studio jewelry and and original art by Susan Seddon Boulet.

No word yet on what may be occupying this very desirable location in Media.

  1. Have to wonder is the rent being put up so high as to squeeze out these small shops that have made Media the town people want to be in? Note the Hallmark Store and Media Flower shop have left recently after being here for years. And looks like Quincy's might go too?

    1. Ask Media Real Estate or Zomick and Macmahon Between the two of these companies they probably own
      80 % of the spaces

    2. Quincy's not closing. Long time employee bought it and will revive it.

  2. Yeah, it seems to be a reasonable assumption... “support small business while we raise their rent”! Smh! These smaller businesses have a hard enough time staying above water and many times have to raise prices to keep afloat and people don’t want to pay them! It’s sad!

pretty sure Turning Point Gallery was OWNER OCCUPIED. Turning Point (Chris) owns the building. Don't believe rent played into this closure.

  5. Used to shop there all the time when I worked at Media law firm. Continued browsing at the store when I no longer worked in Media. Great store. So many wonderful things in it.

  6. Just my 2 cents as an artist living in Media and having participated in numerous Media Arts Council Second Saturdays and shows at their west end gallery--Media is NOT a big art-buying community. Not sure how artists make out at the art fair on State Street but the local art market seems to be over-saturated especially when you add in online sales. I don't think local buyers "get" why purchasing original art is a better choice than mass-produced art from China at Home Goods. Or if you can make your own masterpiece at one of those paint-and-sip places. Sadly, even with hundreds of new apartments coming with tons of empty wall space, I don't think it's going to benefit many in the Media arts community. Hey, maybe someone will open another bar--just what we need.
