ATM Blog suffices for incident management tool for Media Borough

*UPDATE 11/29/17 8:45am EST * as of 7:45am this morning, technicians were on site to fix the issue.

After four months of being disabled and many inquiries about its repair, it looks like the traffic light will finally be fixed this week.  The problem originated when pedestrians were unable to use the cross-walk feature and out of frustration reached out to this blog for assistance.  Unfortunately, the issue was never addressed by the borough until today.  Based on the borough's FB page, an announcement was made that the traffic will be interrupted at Orange and Baltimore Ave. (morning hours) to work on the traffic signal control box.  Why wasn't it addressed earlier?  And why isn't there better incident management of issues that residents are concerned about?

The Wawa-Effect may be having an "Effect" in Media

Going into its fifth month of being open, the new Wawa in Media hasn't seen the dramatic increase in traffic congestion and inconvenience some expected, at least not to the level we were led to believe by Media Borough Council.

That's not to say this Wawa isn't having an effect on the immediate area.   A strong case can be made that the Lukoil gas station that closed across the street was due in part to the upcoming competition of the new super convenience store with is multiple gas pumps.  Another example might include the upcoming Starbucks move to a new building across the street that will be built on the former footprint of Lukoil.  Yes, it's probably true the current Starbucks had issues with parking and space that were independent of WAWA, but the superstore only emphasized those nuisances further.

Former hours of Swiss Farms Uppr Prov
Recently, a third observation may show how disruptive a Super Wawa can be in a community.  Last week, Swiss Farms cut back store hours of their Upper Providence location to 8am to 8pm, from 6am to 10pm.  In this competitive space that includes Wawa and Royal Farms, Swiss Farms pays close attention to historical data and store hours to analyze hours of operation.  In addition to analytics, you just have to drive by to see Wawa is buzzing almost every hour of the day.

With recent economic and housing development going on in Media, it would be great for the community to see what impacts these projects bring and a short summary of economic benefits or drawbacks.  (i.e. What kind of impact will the new Hampton Inn in Media provide to local restaurants and what kind of historical effects does a hotel like this contribute to similar areas.)

A FOIA filed for Third St. Bridge shows Media Borough spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in engineering and legal fees since 2000.

A Freedom of Information Act filed recently with Media Borough regarding the Third Street Bridge shows hundreds of thousands of dollars spend on engineering and legal fees since 2000, but no real results in over 17 years.  In addition, the Contempt of Court Order was provided that Judge Proud signed back in June 2014.

The Best Choice for County Council

Tried and True! Jack's Tavern Serving the Neighborhood for 60 years!

Nothing beats a classic! It's not fancy, cutting edge or a tavern that trends on yelp.com with a five star rating; it really doesn't want to be either.  After 60 years of serving the community, they've found what works: good food, cold beer and a reasonable price that no other bar comes close to.  That just doesn't go out of favor.

Happy anniversary and thanks for the many charitable contributions made to a host of community efforts.

Tap 24 Opens on State Street

It's sorta like a sports bar, sorta like a roadhouse, and sorta like Brick and Brew three doors down the street.  I share the latter observation as it appears this is how the design and vision came about for the newly opened Tap24 restaurant and bar on State Street. (Yes, the old site of Picasso's).  That's a smart move as Brick and Brew is packed every night and has been since it opened back in 2016.  They definitely have a winning formula and just as important, an overflow of customers.

Dom
What's different, in my opinion, is that Tap24 has a more relaxed environment, with good space, nice TV's, beer (plenty) and a welcoming atmosphere that just says, "hang out for a while and have fun."  They even have electrical outlets under the bar counter by your legs for those who have smartphone battery anxiety.  And check out the flannel attire.

I mean, what else do you need? Smartphone, beer, TVs, food and more beer.  Oh yes, there's Dom too!  The longest running bartender in Media who knows how to run a fine drinking establishment.

Ok, now for the food.  In short, it's awesome.  The fried chicken is the featured dish and comes with two sides: mac and cheese and potato salad.  They also brought back the Picasso burger(Yes!), which for those Media restaurant historians who know, was voted the best burger in town by, well, me.  I'm sure it's just as good, with other selections of sandwiches, starters, and salads.  There's a kids menu too.

Some may feel the menu is limited, but that again brings us back to the comfort setting that Tap24 has. It's a place to hang out and watch a game and not feel rushed.  The "not feel rushed" and/or "cramped" aspects are what I think are in short supply with restaurants in Media lately.

Congrats to Tap24!
