A few interesting efforts being entertained regarding parking in the Media business district.

Proposed for State Street
At the Borough's Public Safety meeting last month, a few things were discussed to address parking.

One of particular interest is the idea of using two spots per block on each side of State Street to allow for pick up and drop off.  This would be at 15-minute intervals.  It doesn't provide details if this would be for certain times and days of the week.

A parking app has always been a viable idea, but that's more of a matter of execution than technology.  So is the idea of kiosks instead of individual parking meters.  Both have been around for a while but never acted on by Media's elected officials.
This situation isn't unique to Media, as other localities face similar parking challenges.  However, what are they doing about it?  Well, during my travels this week, and looking for a place to park, I noticed a well lit sign that instructed drivers to download an app to pay for parking with their smart phone.  This didn't alleviate the immediate shortage of parking spaces, but much like real time traffic apps and Ezpass, this too could have great potential.  Can your Iphone Help Media's Parking Problem? Credit Card Parking meters is another matter of execution and followup.  Media has had the ability to accept credit cards since 2013, but never the oversight to maintain them.  Speaking of which, when will the Olive Street Garage be repaired (again)
