Today 2/19/19, this shot was taken raising even more questions about Olive Street Garage. Is this garage acceptable, safe or even legal?
Since supposedly being repaired at the cost of ~$900,000 in 2014 the list grows supporting the position that Olive Street Garage never really was. Not only that, there was never any explanation or recourse pursued by Media Borough Council to recoup the money spent for the repair.
With many businesses in dire need of parking, having something like this mismanaged is unacceptable. Not just mismanaged, but multiple times.
- Media has much bigger priorities than $20,000 5 minute infomercials
- Significant Repair Needed for Olive Street Garage.
- Media Borough Council Considers $850,000 Bond to Repair Olive Street Garage
- Less Parking tonight for Dining Under the Stars due to repair work occurring at Olive Street Garage.
- After $900,000 in repairs, Olive Street garage continues to leak and damage cars
- Park at your own risk at the Media Olive Street Garage (*AGAIN*)
- Olive Street Garage - Be aware of falling debris
August 2018
Unacceptable. Throw out the Media Borough Councilmembers. Thankfully the Republicans are putting up a candidate this year so I don't have to be forced to vote for this crap any longer!
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to account for this failure. Someone should lose their job over the way this has been handled the mayor. and Jeff Smith are the top of the heap and really should be fired for endangering the public on borough property
DeleteThe Mayor isn't up for 2 years in terms of elections.
DeleteLet's send a message to these Democrats. Voting Republican this year to make it clear. Mismanage and I won't vote for you.
No 2 inches clear on that rebar
DeleteGet VP to look at it you'll get a honest answer at least
These people on borough council are there for nothing more than their personal agendas and showmanship. With the way these types of structures can collapse, especially the one recently demolished on Orange Street; this is criminal.
ReplyDeleteWhat party managed the county garage?
DeleteActually the Media Borough Democrats were the ones that denied the County with moving forward to renovate or change the garage. Since the county needed the Borough to approve.
Deletehttps://www.delcotimes.com/news/media-weighs-pros-and-cons-of-new-county-construction/article_5892f813-8268-5564-be77-50b1f88dc564.html
So the only article you found was from Sept. 2017 about Media Council having a public meeting to start the process of replacing the County garage? Why didn't the all republican county council (all Rs since 1980) maintain the garage?
DeleteThey did, there are articles dating back to 2014. The Media Borough Democrats that sat on Council denied the County Council's proposals every time they brought one forward to renovate or rebuild the property.
DeleteVote out the Democrats!
ReplyDeleteI voted for Hall in 2015. I'll be voting him out this May and if not in May and in November for a Republican for the first time ever if necessary. I am done with all of them and their special interests.
DeleteMedia Democrats: Pays $25,000 for useless bike lanes, $56.94 to fix their public garage.
ReplyDeleteAlready found a different option than what the Media Democrats are giving us now. What they are giving us is WASTE and no other option. I'll vote for this guy.
ReplyDeleteI saw his ad on facebook yesterday!

Wow, I never realized how partisan this blog was...
ReplyDeleteWhen the Democrats have run the Borough for the past 9 years all on their own there is only one entity to blame. It isn't about partisanship but nice try on trying to look "nonpartisan."
DeleteAgreed. Since when is this a political party issue? This damn blog...
DeleteIt's a political issue because one party has run this borough for 9 years and has done nothing to fix this issue.
DeleteVoting for the Republicans, Democrats do nothing but mismanage everything. If they can't build a bridge they can't renovate a parking garage.
ReplyDeleteIs the same contractor doing the courthouse garage?
ReplyDeleteThis is a borough asset and we have a borough manager what gives with Jeff Smith
ReplyDeleteI don't care how many articles were written about media pa. Manage the borough and its contractors or step aside
What PE firm signed off on the repairs ?
Democrats have run this town for 38/40 years? Time for some change.
ReplyDeleteTerry Rumsey 2019!
ReplyDeleteKristin Seal 2019!!!!!
DeleteMEDIA pa & DELCO'S version of AOC
Yes Kristin Seale 2019!!! The only Democrat that will get Republicans elected in Media now!
DeleteBrian Hall 2019!!!! (SAID NO ONE because we want him gone!)
DeleteI heard that Terry Rumsey is running for Borough Council is this for real?
DeleteTerry Terry Terry!
DeleteOur Borough Council needs a revamp. Who did they hire to think that slim wooden plank would hold up an entire parking garage? Can I have what they are drinking? Because they are clearly not with the rest of us rn.
ReplyDeletePretty sure this setup is to allow repairs to the underside of the concrete beam to be made.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if it is set up to allow us all to ride a zip-line over Baltimore Ave. This is dangerous and beyond ridiculous that the Borough Council allowed for this to go on this long. It shows how inept they are as a Council.
DeleteThe concrete beam in the picture is clearly compromised. DO NOT GO INTO THIS STRUCTURE!
ReplyDeleteAgreed we need to stay away!
DeleteUnless you're a licensed structural engineer that has closely examined that beam, you have no basis for claiming that the garage is unsafe. I know the modern Know Nothings blissfully follow the example of Dear Glorious Leader, Hair Furor, by believing they know all the answers without any input from experts, but to make baseless claims that the garage is in danger of imminent collapse is irresponsible fear-mongering to bash the political party you disagree with.
DeleteThe beam shows no visible cracking where it rests on the girder, it looks like it either got hit or has some spalling underneath. The wood is not meant to hold up the structure. To think so is asinine.
“The wood is not meant to hold up the structure.“ As the picture shows WOOD HOLDING UP THE STRUCTURE!
DeleteClaiming some are indless "know-nothings" and then saying the wood isn't there for holding up the structure.
DeleteThat's also one beam. Go look at the other beams and see if there are cracks in them yet or not. The fact of the matter is we are wasting time with this temporary fix brought to us by our "Know Nothing" Borough Council.
/ˈɡaslīt/ manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity.
DeleteWow don't you like talking down to people. All of us "know nothings" reminds me of Paul Robinson!
DeleteYou don't need to be structural engineer to be critical over the way this expensive repair has been handled
DeleteIn a previous council meeting I heard Brian Hall ask Kevin Mattson to dig into the work that was previously done in 2011 and as usual you never heard anything about it if its truely safe then post the the letter from the structural engineer stating same that's how it should be handled instead you get the public deciding themselves if it's safe that's why they're called civil structural engineers media borough continues to disappoint in there handling of infrastructure projects
Clearly we need a structural engineer in the room so they can show Council this the parking deck we are talking about and not the 3rd Street Bridge.
DeleteWonder with cars and all this snow if those wooden pillars are going to do much good.
ReplyDeleteI won't be voting for a single person that sits on the Borough Council this year. This is INSANE. Time for new people.
ReplyDeleteOur Borough Council reeks of stupidty.
ReplyDeleteRidiculous. I found that they had a meeting about the Olive St. Parking Garage maintenance on Jan. 28th last month. But that's just it, that's the only place where there is information about it. But all it says is "Olive St. Parking Garage Maintenance."
ReplyDeleteOur Borough Administration is a joke and our Council doesn't care about us as residents at all.
Please include Jeffrey in the admin staff as I really don't know what the guy does for the borough of media
DeletePrevious posts on this site have stated he should find another line of work based upon dealings with him I would say there is a lot of truth in that statement. Seemingly he stopped caring about code issues years back and since there is no oversite he continues to do nothing
And discount every code issue
To the detriment of potential media homeowners and the surprises they will find years later of course
He should be included. That's ridiculous. What do these people do?!
DeleteJeffrey should move on to another job the guy is part of the problem and has been in that role too long
DeleteMedia Borough Council is nuts.
ReplyDeleteCan ATM get to the bottom of this garage debacle and who is responsible for the way this has been handled ?
ReplyDeleteDo we need to switch retained engineer firms until we get one of these firms to agree
With what media borough councils repair strategy ? After all saison done your personally liable as a PE in the state of PA
That's a big burden for Mattson
Mattson is absurd. Did you see what he tried to say to the public about the parking garage? He's a joke.
DeleteCouncil's strategy is move onto the next A&E firm until someone agrees with what they want to do the difference in PA is that nobody or company should take on that burden because media borough council can't listen to sound engineering principals really a shame
DeleteIt's a shame but we have only ourselves to blame. We've elected these individuals, all 7 of them. Time for someone new like Terry Rumsey or maybe that Straw kid.
DeleteIs their an official statement from the borough of media on the borough parking garage ? What happened the the company that made the repairs back in 2014 ?
ReplyDeleteDoubt it. If they can't have an agenda on the website they can't get a statement together.
