Councilman Cunningham recommends crime notification process for Media

Crime reporting in Media is severely lacking on many fronts.  Over Halloween weekend it was disclosed at last week's council meeting that 8 cars were vandalized on West 4th St. with spray paint, sugar and other damaging activities.  Not only that, but the followup on prior burglaries and crimes is almost non-existent.  What ever became of the investigation of the cars broken into at Oakmont?!?!

Residents should be notified immediately about these types of issues; where the incident occurred, what is being done and the outcome of the investigations. It's ridiculous that people have to to wait until a monthly borough council meeting to find out the outcomes.

Kudos to Councilman, Jim Cunningham for recognizing this and offering discussion at the next public safety meeting to determine a better way of disseminating this information in a quick fashion.  There is really no reason why people can't be notified better.

Delaware County Council - Great record on conservation accomplishments

In these challenging economic times, purchasing and preserving land as Open-Space, is no small feat.  To do it without tax dollars is even a greater achievement.

County Council announced on Nov. 9, that the tract of land known as Mineral Hill would become the County's 12th park, adding to the county's 616 acres of open space.

County Council Vice-Chairman Christine Fizzano Cannon spearheaded the three-year project on behalf of Delaware County Council. She said the purchase from Elwyn was finalized on Sept. 23 and stressed that no county tax dollars were used. Instead, the $650,000 purchase price was funded through three sources:
  • A Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant of $358,435;
  • The Natural Lands Trust contributed $60,000 in federal funds from the United States Army Corps of Engineers;
  • Middletown Township contributed the remainder of the purchase price from its Park Facilities Fund, which is funded through fees paid by developers to Middletown in lieu of providing recreational facilities at their developments, and from proceeds raised through open space fund-raising events.

Mineral Hill is a scenic, wooded property on Baltimore Pike just west of Ridley Creek, near the intersection of Elwyn Road and Baltimore Pike. The preservation of Mineral Hill expands the open space along Ridley Creek, as it is adjacent to Memorial Park in Middletown Township and Scott Park and the Lavin tract in Upper Providence.

100 acres of open space coming to the outskirts of Media, PA

Delaware County has acquired land just west of Media that will eventually allow for 100 acres of open space.  The land (a.k.a. Mineral Hill), purchased from Elwyn Institute will be open to the public as a park in the next two years.  Of interest is the notable mineral deposits this tract of land is known throughout the world for.  Some of which included: feldspar, amazonite, chromite crystals and deweylite.

Delaware County Council has been a great advocate of open space and their record shows.  Well done.

Lessons Learned: Poll Workers Needed for Elections

During this year's election it was quite evident that people who take the time to work the polls need help.  It's a long hard day when it's staffed correctly, when it's not, it's much, much harder.

Volunteers are needed for a host of election positions: Judge of Elections, Majority/Minority Clerks, Machine inspectors, etc.  If you would like to be come involved, please contact your local party.

Thanks for the viewership.....thanks for participating....thanks for voting!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by and looked at our election coverage we ran live yesterday.  Based on the volume, there were A LOT of you. Thanks to www.delcotimes.com for the plug about our project and the link from their site.

A special thanks to Dan C. for operating the site and coordinating up to the minute updates and twitter feeds.  We were able to confirm election winners in the 168th and District 7 much faster than the news sites could.  That's hyper reporting at its best.

This stuff isn't easy to do, but we thought it was something new and exciting.  We hope you enjoyed it, got involved and maybe even inspired.
